Current Trend In MMA

Is it me or is the current trend in mma really promoting striking and wrestling the most, I know everyone knows the samething now, BUT it seems to me now that one does not have to be a great JJ guy but basically has to know enough to stay out of something and wait out a restart. Which is good if the action is stalling but what if it’s a guy trying to setup a submisson?

I think there is a big empahasis on wrestling especially in the UFC. With the set of rules and the cage wrestling s very effective in the UFC. No stomps and soccer kicks and four-point knees to worry about either.
I am not so sure about the striking though. In cases where one guy has obvious superiority in stand-up they try to keep it standing.
The day Hollanders decide to embrace mma they will dominate all striking exchanges. I’m waiting for that.

Yea a huge emphasis on Wrestling but I believe thats because of a lack of international talent (which is slowly turning itself around, ie A.Silva).

i think when rubberguard gets more popular (especially after Dean Lister can pull it off)… We’re gonna see some bad ass grappler’s dominating.

I expected a bit more from Babalu but unfortunately to be a popular fighter you have stand and bang (not that I dont enjoy that).

Guys like Aoki or Sato are pulling off ridiculous subs on people like kimbo knocks people out…ALL DAY SON lol

Aoki and Rumina Sato would be bitchin additions to the UFC. They would essentially own what the UFC has now. The only person at LW who could stave them off is Penn and who know where he’s gonna fight, be it MW, WW or LW. I honestly don’t believe Sherk or Florian or Pulver could beat them.
