Curls Gone Wild

Strong work as always! Sorry to hear about the power cage, I aspire to having one in the basement to lift at home when things get really busy.

Thanks guys. My own feeling is that these poundages are pathetic. I’m doing everything I can to make the movements more difficult to make up for it. This is my training future it seems.

Had to sell my Olympic stuff, my cage and bar and bumpers. Have to cancel my gym membership, so I’m stuck with standard weights and a bar that can only hold around 400 lbs or it bends too much to recover from.

Later on I’ll buy a length of 15/16" round tool steel that can take it and make a bar out of that, but this is where it’s at for now. Anybody else feelin’ the squeeze these days?

Damn Tony. That sucks. I am really sorry to hear that. Wish we weren’t half a country apart. You could come lift with me. Maybe then you wouldn’t see your poundages as pathetic.

We are feeling the increased cost of everything. We haven’t yet had to do anything drastic, but there isn’t much, if any, play money. I am having to budget for my Surge and supps, now. And eating out is now a privilege, not a whim. Of course, this time of year is always tight…5 birthdays and Mother’s and Father’s day all in a 7 week period.

i am taking advantage of everyone else’s pain. 2 weeks ago I got my first oly set, a lame bench/squat rack thing with an oly bar and 160lbs for $25.

2 days ago I got another oly bar, another bench, and 160 lbs for free (he said I could have it for free if I would only take away the bench).

So, I can load a bar with 360. i saw a shitty power rack for sale for about $40 a couple months ago.

I AM OLD LARDASS, KING OF THE BOTTOM-FEEDERS

This is a bad time year for us too, Strick. A couple of birthday, upcoming summer camps, thinking about college next year for our oldest. And the school band wants to send the students on a $2K/student trip to Hawaii. Seems a bit over the top to me and my wife.

All that said, after being out of work half a year last year in this economy, I feel pretty fortunate overall.

So DAC, if you’re looking to sell anything, you know who to call…

That sucks Tony but if anybody can build their own gym its you.

Okay - let me apologize for my “poor me, oh woe is me!” moment.

Thanks, Strick for the offer of your spare bar, but don’t go to any trouble on my account. I do still have most of my oly weights. Jesup Gym has a 1550 lb Oly bar for fairly cheap, so I’ll likely pick that up with the money saved from canceling my gym membership. There’s a silver lining here besides -since I love to improvise and hunt for fitness equipment, this will give me hours of fun every week AND develop my weaknesses.

If I can’t do big numbers for a while, then extremely bad leverage and pauses can make up for it.

there is no shortage of 2" pipe at home depot. fat bar that takes oly plates. that’s how I made my oly dumbell that I named ‘frankenbar’.

loading pin - 24" x 2" pipe with holes across the bottom for a cotter pin, and holes in the top for a carabiner

bangalor torpedo - take 2" or 4" pipe and satchel charge. there are 16 blocks of c4, which you will split down the middle. jam all that into the pvc pipe and wrap with det cord. explode.

the possibilities are truly endless

MJ, color me intrigued. Pics?

And a video of the torpedo would be nice, too.

Nice work Tony. Your floor presses and Clean and presses are looking damn nice

Back feels great, eco. Thanks for asking. Still tweaking a bit on hard days, but all in all operational.

Keeping the lower-body training poundages low right now and working on doing the movements perfectly so as to strengthen both sides of the back equally.

Nice work, Tony, looking strong.

Hey shirtless super-buff abs-showing dude, those look awesome! I’ve often wanted to try them, but am afraid to look like an idiot in the gym if I can’t do them right. Nice work.

I saw this the other day:

Whole thing’s good, but check out 2:55.
