Curls Gone Wild

This thread is classy. Comparatively.

Tony, that is a lot of work with a healthy back. With it tweaking, tough, that is just nuts.

Skip, I was thinking the same thing. You are a stud Mr DCA.
I guess you guys’ studliness might be rubbing off on me, then.
That wasn’t studliness. You might want to wash your hands.
I WAS going for the high ground, avoiding mentioning the entendre, trying to keep this thread classy. But NOOOoooooooo, you had to go there anyway…
sorry. I’m a bad person.
You’re not a bad person. If you were a bad person, you would’ve said face, not hands.

Damn crazy-assed lifting going on in here, as usual.

Like kimbakimba said - I’m not that badly hurt. Nowhere near as bad as last time. I’m not inclined to do any heavy back work right now, but I can do more than I can’t do - for which circumstance I’m grateful.

Going to try some light sumos today. I’ve been feeling out standing presses over the last couple of days and they feel okay. Won’t be cleaning them today, but I think I can take them out of the rack and get 'em overhead. If those feel funky, I’ll do some volume on seated strict BTN presses. Looking forward to chins for the spinal decompression.

Tried a different setup on belt squats yesterday that gets me closer to the floor and so closer to the weights. Basically started out below parallel.

Yeaterday’s tests

Hip belt squats
1 plate x 5
2 plates x 5
3 plates x 5
4 plates x 5
5 plates x 3
6 plates x 2
6 pl + 35 x 1 and that one hurt. total 305. Was planning for 340, but after that last one I knew I wouldn’t get it.
Changed the setup higher to 3/4 squat height
6 pl +35 x5

I can see from these that I’m a lower-back-dependent squatter. Strong ass and lower back and no real leg strength. Gotta think about whether I need to fix that or not.

Military press

Standing Overhead press (no cleans)
barx10
115x5
135x3

Sumo deadlifts
135x5
225x3
315x3
365x3 (hm, feels okay…let’s try more weight)
405x2 (belt on, still feels okay)
445 1x5 sets (sets 4 and 5 felt iffy on the back, but went up okay)

SHoulder-width chins
BWx5 ballistic
+50x5
+90x2,2,1 = 5 that’s all I need.

CGBP (2 sec pause)
135x5
185x3
205x5
225x2
235 1x5 sets

Good session. I may be well enough to start up squats again. Learned how to setup for the top sets of OHPs. Chest up and shoulders back, elbows under the bar. Then I can get a straight line drive up as I come under the bar. That only took 5 years to finally get…

Nice work DCA. Good to see the back holding up under those sumos.
Chins are impressive.
Musta been just a flesh wound.

dude - 445 sumo DL for 5 singles witha f’uped back after those OHPs …

speechless…

Been sleeping with Ms. Heatingpad all week to keep blood in the area so it could heal quicker. And I didn’t stop training so it couldn’t lock up on me.

A side bennie is that it’s forced me to use my right hip and back more since I couldn’t depend on the strong left side and things are coming more into balance. Yet another side benefit is that I’ve noticed I let my right shoulder drop forward to make up for my lack of range of movement in the right hip. BY keeping that shoulder back I can force the right side to do it’s share of work on squats, deads and rows from the floor.

I WIN!

…like a monkey…

I would resent that remark were it not so apt a description.

You are amazing. In the midst of what many would consider a temporary show stopper, you not only keep going, but find the silver lining in the cloud. Great work and truly an example to follow.

Geeze, great work in here for a gimp!

On a side note, when is the next e-meet?

Me too! I love his attitude. Kinda makes me want to punch someone in the face. But I wouldn’t…I’m Canadian.

I’ve done something like this for 5 reps only with not nearly as much weight and wanted to die.

Hang clean & Press (1 clean/press)
barx15
95x5
115x5
135x5

Power Clean & Front Squat(rock bottom, paused)

Front squat (rock bottom,paused)
225x2,2
245x1,1

High clean pulls
245x3
255x3
275x2,2

Good enough. Had to work off some stress. Took about 45 minutes.

Nice front squats. I need to be more consistent with those, if not just for the ‘ab’ work.

Had to monkey with the height of the supports the bar was resting on. Spent a lot of energy and screwed my setup on the first 4 sets by having to roll the bar hard into my hands and then press it up. Last two sets I got it up on the cinder blocks and plates to where I could use a minimal rolling motion to get it into position and so the press was easier.

Wish I hadn’t had to sell my power cage…

Tried to make it a 3 sec pause on squats, but time runs differently at the bottom of a squat so it probably wasn’t as long as 3 seconds.

felt like death on the 25th. Snatch grips DLs last time were horrid. Everything felt much better today. Snatch grips are making the rows harder, but I’m sticking to it. I may need to rearrange things - I’m doing some sort of posterior chain work each session.

Glad to see the back thing was just a minor glitch. And I still like all the ol stuff you are doing.

I’ve experienced that time warp at the bottom of a squat too.

Good god Tony, I bet you did feel like death. I felt like death reading it.

Always impressive.
