Curls Gone Wild

Your back can’t be hurtin’ that bad if you can climb up on those cinderblocks like a monkey and heave all those plates.

After the last back injury, he had them remove the sensory neurons from around his spine.

They said they could rebuild him.

They said they could make him better.

They had the technology.

They made him better… faster… stronger…

(it cost about six-million dollars…)

Back hurt really badly after the last training session, though not from the session. I ended up sitting upright with my back under tension for a couple of hours at a social function that night and it caused spasms in the subsequent days. I took a couple of days total bed rest with a heating pad to let it all unkink. Still tweaky if I move wrong, but able to walk about and pick up plates to put on the bar.

Haven’t done lever pullups for what seems like forever. It’s basically a gymnastics front lever either with body straight or legs pulled in to reduce torque, depending on your strength level. I’m not strong so I had my knees at my chest. Fun and challenging. No DL’s today, thanks.

That’s a lot of supps. I think I could do the job for half that.

Floor Press
135x8
185x5
205x3
225x3
245x3
265x2,1,1,1

Leg Press
200x8
400x5
600x3
690x1,1,1

These did not feel good around the iliacus/psoas. Gave up on 'em.

Reverse Lunges
135x5,5
185x5

Chest Supported Rows
145x5
195x5
245x5
265x2,1,1,2,3,3 (PR + 20 lbs)

Took a while to figure out how to do the top weight.

BB Curls
105x5
125x3
130 2x5 sets

Back is feeling better, but I’m not pushing it. Leg press was disappointing, being down -200 lbs from best, but it was hurting wrong down the inside of the left hip/lower abdomen. Still, Progress was made on the floor presses and rows.

I look at this and I feel…inadequate. Nah. Nice work. Including any warmup work and what-not, how long are you at the gym for this session?

Nice work there Senior DCA.

I’ve learned that in addition to a great back exercise, the chest supported rows are also great for teaching one to hold their air in. By time I get to the 10th rep or so, it’s all I can do to keep a strong belly (yes, even though it’s “chest supported”).

Tony, that is a lot of work with a healthy back. With it tweaking, tough, that is just nuts.
Bench is still strong and upwardly mobile. And awesome chest supported rows.

Great session!

Skip, I was thinking the same thing. You are a stud Mr DCA.

I like to start each rep from the floor, so I start with the shoulder in forward extension. Each rep is as explosive as I can make with the limited range of motion, to the extent that I am actually rearing back as I pull my shoulder blades together and pull the bar up to the bench. It’s kind of like doing an upper body deadlift/clean pull + row.
