Best of… Hope you heal fast and well…
Tony is a machine. he’ll be back loading his spine in no time.
are you going to see a doc about it?

Oh hell no! They always want to
- prescribe drugs
- cut on me
- tell me to stop lifting weights so much.
And they can’t do anything else to help. If they could get me laid somehow I might be more inclined to see them, but as it is…

I got a plan - heavy deadlifting is out for a while, but this is a good time to institute some volume work for vertebral bulletproofing and general rehab. This is not so bad as last time. Not nearly. Couple weeks to a month and I’ll be back to it. 'Sides, I’m screwed if I stop now, picking up heavy things is likely the only way I’ll keep any back integrity. If you haven’t got discs, then you need the muscles to hold things together.
Ouch. Sounds like you have good plan in place, though.
As far as the doc goes, I sympathize. Most docs and chiros I’ve talked with have been understanding regarding our “hobby,” but I’ve been given some goofy advice. “You should really wear a belt when you lift.” (er, not at the weights I’m moving) “Just don’t lift so heavy.” (yeah…no)
Good plan about the volume Tony, for a second I thought you were going to start doing Crossfit…
I kid, I kid…

Hip Belt Squats
1 plate x 5
2 plates x 5
3 plates x 5
4 plates x 5
5 plates by 5,6
6 plates x 5 (PR +45 lbs)
Chest supported DB row
105’s x5,5,6,8,6 (very short ROM unfortunately)
Incline DB curls
55’s x 4
45’s x 5,4
Here’s what the chain yoke squats looked like:
Awesome setup for the hip belt squats!

And a great effort with a busted back! Does that belt pressure on the lower back feel good?

Needs to be a bit higher and double up on the cinder blocks so they can’t wobble when I push out, though. That was almost another accimident…
I wonder if my belt can handle another 70 pounds?
My back felt great after those. Not so much after the curls.

Are you proposing attaching something like this to the belt?
Great work, Tony. Indeed you are a machine. Most of the rest of us wouldn’t look at a weight after such a back issue. You are as tough as you are strong (and yes you are strong).
Was the chain yoke squat vid done before or after your back “accident?” I’ve often wondered about these in the past, in particular what kind of stresses they put on the back.

I ain’t tough - I do things that don’t hurt.

lol - wouldn’t that be awesome.
actually am just curious because I struggle with lower back issues as well and it looked to me as if it would feel good.

That vid was the set before I raised weight and wonked my back just taking it out of the rack. In fact, I had to leave the bar half hanging since I couldn’t get one side onto the squat stand.
The hip belt squats don’t stress the back at all, but do manage to get blood into the area. I can’t help but think the GH release from a good set of squats speeds healing too.
A nice massage and chiro adjustment may help a little. I hope it was just a bad muscle spasm and not a disc.
Sorry to hear about the back.
Man, you DaCrazyAlbino, fer sure.

They always want to treat the symptoms. I would much prefer they treat the cause.
