Just watch the video if you don’t want to read the banter…
2nd competition, did the first one last year at the same event, smaller scale
Bw 89.5kg : About the same weight as last year but weighed more due to rubbish scales! A bit leaner and more muscular this year around
MW Class 90Kg : 18 competitors
The competition was very fun to do! A great bunch of guys and just a lot of fun to compete against each other ![]()
People were saying I was lucky to make it in…0.5kg is A LOT OF WEIGHT to be under. 0.1kg would have been much closer and I couldn’t even do a poo due to the relatively small amount of food I ate on Friday.
4 events to preceed to finals, top 4 goes through
2 semi fnial event
1 final event
4 events: : No videos due to no my mates and I competiting.
2.8tone truck pull 30m timed
25.25s, I think I won this one but since they weren’t telling times I couldn’t tell. I thought I was going slowly but apprently not?!
Legs felt like jelly after the truck pull!
Medley:
loaded Sledge push 15M, run back to start
50kg keg bear hug run 15m, run back to start
200kg+ tyre flip x 6 timed
56seconds. I think I scored first in this one. My mate did 59seconds and is much better at CV then I was but due to the event being nearer 1minute I can just about cope. Other mate who is much better then me at CV still did 78seconds, but it was his last event and he had a lighter load on the sled.
DeadLift: Max weight rising bar, as many attempts as you want, straps are allowed
but I went RAW stylee ![]()

205 fail ![]()
I was happy with 200 since I’m not a great DL. PB of 200kg when fresh and not having done anything heavy for a while I was very pleased, especially after the truck pull and the medley which were all very leg intensive. And I failed 190kg a few months back
A lot of MW did 210-220, one guy did 235kg so I was well down here, must have been at least 6-8 or so?
80% of bw Log Clean and over head (press, push press, power jerk, split jerk, anything allowed as long as it’s over head locked) reps for 60seconds, lot has to be touch the floor on each rep
72kg for me, 7reps, position makes a big difference, I was battered also and endurance isn’t my thing. One rep I nearly got it up and lost it and lowered it to behind my head and then had to get it over and start again, gash!
I think I was about 4-5 on this one?
Top 4 goes through to Semi’s
I came in 3rd place, the top 2 guys were joint first. Happy to make it through, I would have been disappointed if I didn’t make it through, 2 really strong events and one poor DL and a medicore Clean and Push press.
My 2 mates were eliminated
Semi finals

62kg kettle bell
60kg anvil
50kg keg
40kg sack
75kg atlas stone
102kg atlas stone
3rd, 1.5 second behind the 2nd place guy, 3-4seconds behind the first place guy
First time on atlas stones!
Did a test pick in practice, the 75kg moved up, really deceptive in how you pick it up. Picking up in totally the wrong way. Hips high, rounded back, bent over the thing to f0ck! Tried to pick it up the proper way, no can do!
Test picked the 102kg stone, moved off the floor a few cm’s…hmmmmm…
Yokel 190kg load
Never done this, was planning pick it up and just running with it, obviously I was back and forth and all over the shop! Critical to just keep moving
I was quite confident on this. I have strong legs and I’ve back squated 201kg ATG and regularly triple 180kg, so use to a heavyish load on the back.
2nd, about 2second behind the first place guy, the guy that was 2nd on the medley dropped this yokel on the floor twice so I think he came in 4th place.
Final
Farmers walk : 60kg each side plus 20-30kg equipment : 30m run
50kg key handle carry : 30m run
Rope pull on sled : Pull 30m
Not sure of the weight on the sled but I think it was about 100-120kg?
I was a bit more apprehensive about this one. For me time is a critical thing. Depends on how long the event lasted would determine how well I would do. If it’s 70seconds+ my performance would degrade A LOT as I have p!ss poor endurance. 10min mile for about a mile! I don’t do any CV, the only bit I get is my 2mile cycle to the station each morning.
My opponent was first in the Qualifers, first in the Semi’s so I had all to do. He runs CrossFit Reading also and is an all around machine.
Farmers walk I was behind a bit, not sure exactly by how much. Keg in my rush tw@tishly dropped it like a school boy. In my Rush I’m leaning forwards and lost balance and dropped it. Didn’t think how far he went, just stopped it, picked it up by the handles (rule, no bear hunging it this time) and just getting to the rope pull. Got down to the rope pull and just went for it. Pulling as fast and as hard as I could do. Didn’t really feel tired at all. I saw I was catching up on his sled. Started to tire about half way through, saw I was over taking him and just really went for it. Looking at the video I can see him tire more in the rope pull. I was going hand over hand much faster then he was, reaching longer also. Then I somehow got the idea to just lean forwards and yank the thing instead of pulling arm over arm. Not entirely sure why I didn’t do this earlier? But I was in the heat of the moment, not really thinking, just going for it. Last big pull the thing really went! Looks like about 7-9ft in one pull? Front crossed the line and I won
booyah!
Won a coffee hamper, sub armour top, protein, protein shaker and a 24kg kettle bell which is pretty cool!
Really pleased with my performance overall. I came 2nd last year in the heavy weight guys and wanted to win this year. I’ve been doing medley type of stuff on Sundays since the last comp in October so my speed/ power endurance has been improving but I’ve alway came last compared to my 2 mates. Our events were lighter due to us not having the equipment to go heavier and they were longer im terms of time, which favours them greatly. The only events I did better was the shot puts and the dragging of a 200kg metal rail.
My DL is fairly shocking but I do it Clean style and not to maximise the weight due to my Olifting. And my back is very weak rounded and it would snap as I’m not use to it like the other guys, who are better at max weight. I’ll do this in my off season to increase to 215-220kg or so. I thought I was going to do on the Clean and press but I was f0cked and I was fairly average at it.
