I’ve been practicing the Clean and Jerk for quite some time, off and on. I throw it in with Jim Wendlers 5/3/1 program as it’s a great way to go into deadlifts and squats. Anyhow, I wanted to read opinions of what my ‘T’ brethren and sisters think of my Power Clean and Jerk. I call it a Power C&J because I didn’t actually squat really low to catch it. Nonetheless, here it is and please let me know what you think. This is my first video I’ve posted here.

I myself ask for advice/critique on C/J, it’s a technical lift that I am discovering can’t be over thought. Sometimes you have to just let your body respond.
Allow me to offer this one observation: You really get ramped up for your lift - maybe it helps you lift more, feels better, whatever the reason - could it be that that energy is not efficiently used?
Granted, he’s an Olympian, years of practice, but look at how efficient he is and that ain’t no play weight. (@ 1:45 in the video)
That’s my goal. Currently, my best power clean is 235 - I will die a happy man when I get to 315.
Efficient explosion - that is my aim.
I applaud your video and asking for advice because I need it too.
You start with your hips too high. Break it off of the floor slowly with the quads until the bar passes the knees. From here you’ll JUMP and do a double ‘elbow strike’.
Your jerk looks fine at that weight, meaning you’re too strong for 2 plates to show any flaws.
Also: Anything taken from the floor to the shoulder and jerked overhead (according to IWF laws) is considered a C&J I’m still able to power clean more than I can jerk.
Thank you very much for your responses. I’ve never had anyone look at what I do because I train by myself and nobody in the gym here in Iraq has a clue on how to perform the C & J.
Now, Mutsanah, I live in Colorado Springs and have seen the Olympians at the olympic training center look like they go slow with all of their lifts. But in actuality, they explode, of course. I tell myself that 225 is too heavy for me, that’s why I get all amped up. I now see that I’m very explosive from the floor and I can definately add 25lbs to my lift. And you’ll get your 325, it’s all about patience and progression(aggression).
tjr-dk, thanks for saying that I’m too strong for two plates. It does look too light when i clean it, I can tell. I have yet to try to clean more than I can jerk. But apparently, since my last max out which was 290, I can only jerk as much as I can clean. We’re all different, aren’t we. I am short, but I have long arms for being a short guy so that kind of sucks.
Anyhow, thank you gentlemen, for all of the tips and advice, I appreciate it very much.
