Received news today that I am one of six students from the UA philosophy department (my second major) who has been selected to give a 15-minute presentation at a research conference the University is holding this April. May end up sharing the paper on here at some point if anyone’s interested, but this is great news :]

Texish Method C4W1D3 Bench

Bench: 220x5
Press: 155x5/5/5/5/5
Pushdowns: Max x20+11+6
Barbell Curls: 95x8+5+4

Paused the last rep of each press set on my chest. The set of twenty with the full stack on the pushdown machine was cool lol.

@bigpappafrance Good! I’m wrapping up my spring break now and have mostly been taking it as a chance to be lazy lol. Honestly excited to get started with school again at this point. Hope you’ve also been doing well :]

Hard top set today. But I spent most of yesterday in airports and didn’t eat much so that may do it. Will make sure I’m ready for next week and see how it goes. Might be a decent excuse to finally start cutting soon lol. I’ve gone from 110 —> 145 —> 205 without much of a pause, and I’m starting to feel like a fat fuck.

PR by virtue of not being able to count to five lol. You’d think I’d be pretty decent at it after a third of a year.

Saw someone doing Zercher Jefferson curls, which was cool. This gym leans really heavily towards traditional bodybuilder-style training, so to see anything oly/odd-lift related is a noteworthy occasion lol.

well done.

Excellent work! I would say before cutting you should get to 220 - just to have doubled your starting weight, be twice the man you once were!

This exact thought has crossed my mind lol, and if there’s any time in my life that I could justify getting fat for the sake of a pun it would be now.

Absolutely! Plus you’d add lbs to the bar, win win!

Was looking through my dorm and found the physical journal I used to track my training from October 2021 (when I started lifting for the first time after my spine surgery) to the start of this log. Cool to look back at how far I’ve come from my first top set of 155x10 deadlifts lol.

This is spectacularly neurotic behavior, but I just spent like ninety minutes cross-referencing the journal, my youtube channel, and this log to find every PR single, (or - very early on - my heaviest set up until that point,) entering them into a spreadsheet (along with the number of days between 10/2/21 and when I hit them,) and turning that into a graph. Then I added logarithmic lines of best fit, which ended up having really high R^2 values (unsurprisingly - strength development is known to be logarithmic). Bodyweight is probably the biggest confounding variable here, but I’m not good enough at Excel (nor have I weighed myself and recorded it enough times) to do much with that.

Obviously I’m not going to use this as a predictive model (determinism is cringe anyways,) but it was a fun little project. Or just proof that I have a weird sense of what constitutes ‘fun.’

I should definitely do this lol

@bigpappafrance please tag me if you do, I’m curious to see what it’d look life for someone with a longer training history than me

Bench: 205x5/5/5/5/5
Incline Hammer Curls: 40x12+9+5 RP
Pushdowns: Max x12+6+4 RP

Incline Walk: 15:00

Awesome milestone set. I was 95% of the way to passing out after my first warm-up set with the bar (first time that’s happened in a while, now that I think of it) so I wasn’t terribly optimistic until I had the bar in my hands

Watched the finals of the NCAA D1 wrestling tournament yesterday, the highlight of which was probably a 25-minute match at 133 that was ~70% blood time/official reviews and ~30% Daton Fix stalling.

Ridge Lovett’s coaches having him start on top in a 0-0 match with zero riding time going into the third period is among the worst decisions I have seen in the sport btw.

This is interesting enough I’ve been thinking about it since you posted it. I’ve heard comments like “however long it took you to get to 185, it’ll take you just as long to get to 225”, but I always took it with a grain of salt.

It’s really interesting to see it graphed out in support of the idea.

The other thing I find kind of interesting is that you described the R^2 value as “really high”. A few weeks ago I gave up on an idea where the R^2 was 0.994 because it wasn’t good enough, lol. But it’s true, those are pretty high.

I actually think you should. But in the “how much better can I do than the model says” sense. Not only “beat the logbook” but also “beat the trendline”.

Because if you look at it, the fit is just based on average data. The trendline represents the average performance, if you keep doing what you’ve been doing, but you can still perform one or more standard deviations away from it and stay within the model. Every bit that the R^2 is further from 1 suggests that you can perform that much better.

Plus, the model is just based on what you’ve been doing. I’m sure there’s still plenty of “gamechangers” that can shift that curve.

I don’t understand the math, but I agree with @LoRez . Fuck that line. Go kick it’s ass.

@LoRez Will respond to that thoroughly when I get a minute, but there’s a few really interesting points in there

@boilerman Not a great session today but I’m working on it lol

Haven’t had a good squat day this cycle, so not terribly surprised. Going to reattempt this next month, since I hit 375x5 pretty easily a month ago. Can’t win ‘em all. Going to focus in on hitting bench and DL PR’s to round out the week so I can at least go 3/4.
