At this point I’m pretty sure I have the flu or something. Made a pretty solid time on the BBB sets, but this was harder than it should’ve been. The bright side is that I’m getting lots of food and sleep, so I should recover from whatever it is before too long.
Still feel like shit, still made decent time. BBBB sets were supposed to be 125, but I fucked up my math somehow. I’ll be squatting tomorrow because my gym is closed for Christmas.
Solid day - quick work on the BBB sets, and my triceps felt like they were going to burst out of my skin with all the dips. Weighted dips are something that I really need to keep after this program.
Pretty much every top set so far has felt off, but I’m crushing the BBBB sets. I’ll take it - top end work will come back once I start feeling healthy in general. This was supposed to be done tomorrow, but I’ll be going to wrestling practice for the next couple days instead.
I long way back in the log, I mentioned telling another wrestler at my gym about 5/3/1 after he asked me about programming - I ran into him today, and he looked about 25 Lbs bigger than the last time I talked with him. Good for him - patting myself on the back for that one lol.
I’m putting in application for a bunch of government/law-adjacent summer internships, and joining a club next semester where I can potentially get writing on those subjects published in a journal. I also made a final decision on my major, after speaking with a few family members who are lawyers themselves: political science. LSAT prep will probably start sometime next year, and from there all I have to do is keep my GPA stupidly high. I’ll be returning next year as a junior because of all the credits I brought from AP classes, so I need to start getting on top of this shit. If I can get into law school at UA (~30% acceptance,) then I can use the last two years of tuition on my scholarship and get my bachelor’s and JD while only actually paying for one year.
Hell yeah. I did political science, since law school has always been in the plans for me. It’s a good option, and also gets VERY interesting. Be warned, it will absolutely ruin any fun political conversation you will ever have with anyone. You can cater the option to what interests you, mine was predominantly international relations and grand strategy focused, but you could also ignore literally all of that and dive deep in US politics, or go into constitutional theory, just so many routes.
Lol of interest, what did you end up doing with that? I studied poli sci and am now doing nuclear engineering for the Navy…. So safe to say not currently using my degree, but i still think it set me up well for the masters programs I hope to get later
Honestly, not much—I’m really a math/CS nerd. It was a great talking point for my grad school applications and interviews, though, so @creative_name name is on the right track!
@SvenG & @atlas13 I knew about Pwn, but I had no idea you two majored in polisci. There’s a lot on this website I guess, lol. Nuclear engineering sounds like an awesome field btw.
@tlgains Thanks : ) I think the most optimized speedrun route would be to try and get kicked out on day 1, lol.
5/3/1 BBBB W2D3: Treadmill Run
2 Miles in 13:23 (Non-Twink PR)
Mile 1: 6:43
Mile 2: 6:40
This was actually pretty easy (other than breathing, my nose is still fucked). If I can hold this pace for another mile-and-change, then that’ll be a 5k PR, and get me within striking distance of a sub-20-minute time. That’s a time that my boyfriend is also working towards, so we could even make a competition out of it lol.
Some work with single-leg defense, and a Turk series, then top/bottom live. Managed to score some reversals and back points against our 250 Lb senior heavyweight, which was pretty neat.
Deadlift: 5x135/225/275/315/355, 5x10 @ 275 (12:00)
NG Chins: 25x8/7/7
Dips: 45x15/15/13
Tempo Back Extensions: BWx30
The pattern continues - top set feels heavy, supplemental work goes well. And to that point, 12:00 is a very solid time. Definitely proud of that. I know back extensions are on the list of stuff Jim says not to add to this program, but I’m doing these without weight just to stretch everything out after deadlifting, and they felt great in that sense.
Yeah - I get his logic in not wanting people to really push low back work while running it, but this sort of stuff seems more like stretching/prehab than actual work.
I’m jealous of anyone who actually has access to a reverse hyper, lol. I want a home gym in the long run, and that’ll be one of the first things I buy for it.
Hell if you really wanted to, you could try to get in touch with one of the directors/coordinators for your UREC and talk to them about getting a reverse hyper. You could make a sales pitch by doing a lot of research, use Louie’s stuff, etc. While it is optimistic, if they say no you gained a lot of experience and knowledge. If they agree, you have access to a reverse hyper
