That looks fantastic! How’d you approach it?

@T3hPwnisher

I picked it up on sale this morning, and started actually prepping it when I got home from lifting. Tenderized it with a rolling pin (apparently we don’t own a hammer for that,) and marinated it until evening in olive oil, balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, woustechester (sp?) and some spices.

I fried the outside in a pan for a few minutes, then dumped some more marinade over it and stuck in the oven at 500 for ten minutes. The butter was easy enough - I just whipped some minced garlic and spices into butter I had lying around.

Glad that I got your seal of approval on it, lol. Always a good sign.

I wanted to comment on this rather than just give it a like. As a young man having true life skills like being able to recognise good food vs poor choices and to be able to prepare and cook that food into a nutritious and tasty meal is simply outstanding. This simple (not for lots of people) skill will help you more than any other on your strength and athleticism journey. Well done young man.

5/3/1 Building the Monolith: Conditioning

Samsara

Death by Burpees (Died in Round 14)
Death by KB Goblet Squats @ 50 (Died in Round 15)

Named as such because you don’t even get to properly enjoy being dead the first time around.

Honestly not a huge fan of this format. Seems like it goes from “too easy” to “failure” too quickly. Might be improved by starting at a higher number and increasing every two or three minutes instead. Still, I got some decent conditioning in and more volume for my legs.

Deadlift: 5x135/185/225/275/315/315, 10x365 (PR)
Bench: 5x95/115/135/155, 5x5 @ 175 (PR)
DB Row: 5x12 @ 85
Incline Curls: 4x25 @ 15

Weight: 179.0 (PR)

Added ten pounds to the deadlift sets because 365 looks cool, and then doubled the reps in the second set as opposed to doing three. Truly living up to the title here. Bear in mind that I missed a single at 350 as recently as March.

If I can can do that after six weeks of getting ground into the dirt by this program, I know I have a big PR waiting on the other side of my deload.

Anyone have advice for not ripping my shins open every time I pull? It’s becoming sort of annoying by now.

I used gorilla tape for a while. Only very recently sprung for a set of deadlift socks, and don’t really care for them

And, of course, great work in here

Knee sleeves at shins work for me.

Salmon!

I picked up a mini Foreman grill to use at college. Realistically, I’ll be getting most of my food from the school, but being able to make some meat on occasion is never a bad thing.

Bike Ride: ~40 Miles; Hike

Last chance I’ll get to see my partner before we head off to our respective colleges - I did not want to leave at the end of the day, lol. We’re unsure if we’ll keep this going after we leave, but worse-case-scenario still has us as good friends.

That’s well outside of the scope of the log, though. I’ll have to see tomorrow if I’m going to do the last lifting day of BtM then or Tuesday - today was exhausting, and I didn’t manage to get through all the eggs/meat. Got off to a very late start with eating in general.

Thanks to everyone who commented on the last session - always glad to hear from you all : )

And that’s a wrap.

This was a fantastic program. Hardest one I’ve ever run by far, but the results have been great, and I’m excited to see that translate into some ME work soon. I really appreciated how well BBBB and this combined. Definitely seemed like a natural continuation.

I’ve been following along with your run of monolith closely and have been meaning to comment more on it.

Huge props for not only completing, but absolutely demolishing BtM. You served it up on a monstrous platter with a side of beef and eggs. Congrats on all the recent PRs and awesome life stuff coming your way! It’s all well deserved!

Just something to remind myself I’m still supposed to be athletic. I’ll get in some quick conditioning tomorrow morning, and then college orientation will take up pretty much the rest of the day.

Kicking myself for not getting a photo of it, but my first meal in Alabama was a huge plate of barbecue pork ribs, white bread, Mac and cheese, and banana pudding. I can definitely get used to living here, lol.
