that’s IT.
He didn’t accuse bush or the US g’vt of SHIT, so quit the goddamn hate mongering.
…and he’s NOT a communist, he’s a SOCIALIST.
…and he’s not a dictator, he was democratically elected.
…ya know… that thing called DEMOCRACY… where people VOTE for their president… and the one who WINS ends up in office.
THAT thing.
That’d be nice, wouldn’t it?
While not a member of the communist party, he certainly seems to swing that way.
And just because Jimmy Carter gave the election the AOK, doesn’t mean that he was fairly elected.
Oh, and don’t forget Castro always wins 100% of the vote.

Good point. I just finished reading Fareed Zakaria’s “The Future of Freedom,” and a point it made that I think every person should take home is that pure democracy by and itself does not produce a stable government. The main problem with this is that illiberal democracies can rise, ie, democracies without a stable economy, a stable government, and most importantly, a constitution. If a president who wanted to reinact slavery was voted into office by popular vote, yay for democracy, boo for constitutional liberty.

Well, Venezuela has political stability (por ahora), economic stability and a constituton, so I guess it’s okay.
I wasn’t specifically talking about Venezuela, just generally. I don’t know anything about South American politics, besdides knowing that Chile is doing quite well.
