Cracked Sternum (Like a Knuckle)

The other morning I rolled over in bed and my sternum cracked much like one cracks a knuckle or their neck/back joints. It felt AWESOME! I think it has something to do with my recent training, but lately I have felt some pressure in that area and it was such a relief to crack it. Anyway, I doubt it is dangerous if it just happens on it’s own, but is it dangerous if I induce it? And if not, HOW can I induce it?

I need that sweet relief.

go on a low chair, like the ones you used to sit on in school and lean back into it, arch and back and pull the arms back like doing flies.

I do that for my back a lot. I’ve never been able to induce the sternum crack though. I’ll try adjusting my arms. Thanks.

mine cracks all the time. i’m not sure when it started, but hopefully it isn’t a terrible thing. good question.

ditto been doing it for yrs, grosses people out hehe

This is funny… I’m the only one I ever knew of this happening to. It started a few years ago and yeah… it’s a relief when it "pop"s.

It’s become a habit with me; almost as unconscious as breathing. Started about 8 years ago.
I can induce it at this point by just pressing my fingers against my chest, or turning my head when I’m sitting.

You have no idea how jealous I am…

Bushy, aren’t you training to be a chiropractor? How can do it on purpose?

holy shit

what a coinsidence!!!

all day yesterday i was trying to do this to myself because it ‘felt’ like i needed to do this. its happened to me before and i couldn’t induce it no matter what i did.

i was even talking with some friends at the gym yesterday about it.

it went away overnight, but all day/night yesterday i needed to do that.

weird.

it feels good.

Don’t go crazy with it, though. It has become pretty automatic with me, but I don’t necessarily see that as a positive. I wake up pretty sore some mornings.
While there is a short-lived feeling of relief after the pop, it is very easy to irritate the cartilage if you go overboard.

Cool! I thought I was the only one with that super-ability. I do it by hyperextending my spine, and it works fairly well to freak out people.

I used to do it. Rarely happens anymore. I noticed the more weight I gained, the less frequently it occurs. I doubt I’ve cracked it in 2 years.

Its interesting more people haven’t replied about this. I figured there’d be a lot more. I’ll give it some time.

Caution though. Too often and the joint will become hypermobile, reducing stability and possibly leading to early degeneration.

Don’t become the junky that I have.
