COVID19: Perspective From A (Sort Of...) Expert-Adjacent Person

You think that’s funny lol? Actually I’m not even kidding.

Indian friends here were joking that they wanted it to be called the “Rajini Variant” when it started infecting fully vaccinated people because Rajinikanth is a fucking legend like Chuck Norris, but really respected and a massive star, over there.

Fucking laughed my ass off.

I did think it was funny, because lawyers are colloquially termed sharks and it’s very punny to include a shark tank in a lawyers office.

My favourite type of jokes however are anti-jokes. Like “an Irishman walks out of a bar”. They also remind me of a time wherein I was very “black and white” about things.

If you’d like me to continue reply on my “war one drugs” thread, don’t want to derail a thread (particularly this thread as the general discussion on here covers a very serious matter)

Nah, I was making something like a rhetorical statement that I don’t know the term for.

All we really need to know is Fauci lied about everything and basically ruined this country with his flippant stupidity about covid. Now it’s looking like HE was funding the research in the lab that appears to be epicenter of the epidemic.
Remember all the ‘conspiracy nuts’ who claimed the lab-leak hypothesis? Well, it looks like those ‘nuts’ were right and the media and the government lied to the American people.
If you trust media and the government at this point… well you are all of the very disparaging words I can think of.

Sweet Jesus. For as much as you loved Trump we’re all just thankful you didn’t inject the bleach.

I heard also heard he ejected right before flying into Tower 2 on 9/11.

Wait. So now it’s a US/China collaboration with the intent of creating a crisis as a reason to extend government powers in their respective countries and they fucked the rest of us in the process?

Screw you guys. I’m going home.

Wait, I’m already at home. I can’t go to work outside now. Happy now, you assholes?

Maybe it was a worldwide conspiracy and they haven’t gotten someone’s laptop with the list of countries that contributed to this yet. I’m sure we’ll find it one day when someone drops it off for repairs at some random computer shop.

:joy: :joy: :joy:

I’m fucking crying here. Thank you.

Please let that be true. PLEASE. Or at least turn into a widely spread conspiracy theory.

Oh God I still can’t get that image out of my head HAHAHHAHAA. Fauci disabled everyone with a knife and then jumped out of a plane like fucking Wesley Snipes. LMAO!!!

What did Pat say in the last post that wasn’t pretty much true at this point?

Started in the lab? Most likely:

U.S. Funding for the Lab:

I think there’s a misunderstanding about the “lab leak” thing.

Lab leak does NOT mean that the Chinese government was out to destroy the world. When you play with fire, there’s a risk of being burned. I believe in the lab leak hypothesis, but do NOT think it was intentional or malicious.

Most likely true, but I don’t think it’s some international conspiracy. I think this is healthy scientific cooperation. Collaborative research on novel viruses to understand mutations, function, transmission etc is VERY important work and the work should be international.

A bunch. I don’t want to waste my time going over what was pretty blatantly implied by his post, but it is literally a paraphrase of the first couple minutes of PLANdemic, which are minutes I watched unknowingly after an acquaintance sent me a “documentary on covid research” last year and can’t ever get back. It’s basically a rapid fire string of complete bullshit.

Fauci - a man with 50 years of research and a guy who fought the AIDS epidemic in the early days - lied knowingly about a topic he’s studied for damn near his whole life. No chance China hid information concerning the start of the thing - they’d NEVER do that. Despite the fact that they were caught doing exactly that several times. Nope, Fauci knew the truth all along :face_vomiting:.

Fauci (capitalized emphasis on HE, as in the individual) funded research at the lab… I mean come the fuck on.

There is literally no way I can remain civil and go over that post. What’s the difference between a real journalism piece and an obvious hatchet job? Technically they both mention “facts”. Except one is obviously implying a bunch of bullshit with a superficial appearance of facts.

That is why I just posted Patrick Stewart. That Picard pose is underrated IMO. Every one uses the “why the f*ck” Picard pic, but that one is just under used.

So after 50 years of research, he didn’t know whether or not masks were needed?

FAUCI: Right. Now people should not be walk— there’s no reason to be walking around with a mask. When you’re in the middle of an outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better and it might even block a droplet, but it’s not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is.
And often there are unintended consequences. People keep fiddling with the mask and they keep touching their face.

You are talking about the difference between blatantly and knowingly lying, about everything, and being wrong about something. In a mere 10 years of research I’ve been wrong about a shitload of things. I will probably have to backtrack on a lot more things in the next 10 years. This does not phase me about him. I’ve already said numerous times that I think the messaging was screwed up out of the gate.

You are also talking about a public health policy issue here, which is not the same. And lest we forget information changes almost daily, which means that it is impossible to be right all the time unless you are clairvoyant. It is VERY common to change thoughts based on new info.

He acknowledged he lied. It had nothing to do with new science:

Fauci explained the early advice against masks by saying: “The public-health community — and many people were saying this — were concerned that it was at a time when personal protective equipment, including the N95 masks and the surgical masks, were in very short supply.”

N95 masks are higher-grade equipment than ordinary masks and mainly used by medical workers.

He added that the government did not want healthcare workers “to be without the equipment that they needed … We were afraid that that would deter away the people who really needed it.”

We are?

I am aware of this episode. I recall it at the time it happened. You took a general statement of mine, which was a commentary on Pat’s obviously general statement, and found a particular instance to say “yeah Pat’s right”. Except that’s not what Pat actually said - he didn’t refer to that issue, which we all talked about on here anyway when it happened in the first.

This is what Pat said: “All we really need to know is Fauci lied about EVERYTHING and basically ruined this country with his FLIPPANT STUPIDITY about covid” (Emphasis mine).

You see the difference? I hope so. One is, “Fauci lied in a situation where he was worried there was going to be a shortage.” A lie? Yes. Not cool, not appropriate, but understandable given the practical situation and the fears at the time it happened.

The other is “Fauci is single-handedly responsible for ruining this country and lied about every single thing related to covid. He’s a complete moron and unfit for office, and you don’t need to know anything else”

They’re not even remotely close to the same thing. The first one is reasonable, the second one is idiotic. This is what I referenced when I mentioned “everything” in my “lied about everything” phrase.
