When I was in the service most people would shower after PT, but would keep themselves covered until they reached the shower stall.
Now that I’m in my local gym, I too have noticed an abundance of “naked old guys” in the locker room. I think it’s great they are so comfortable in their own skin, but I sure as hell won’t be following suit.
I come dressed for gym, use the locker to store my stuff, workout, then leave and shower at home. And I sure don’t want to carry on a conversation while you blow dry/towel your twig and giggle berries. The only people I want to see my naked a$$ is my wife, and my doctor.
And that picture above is just sick and wrong… thanks for at least shrinking it before posting!

There is kind of the opposite problem in the ladies dressing room; women afraid to undress in front of other women. My gyms women locker room has an open area for the locker, two toilet stalls and two showers. So where do the women dress? In the toilet stall. This really pisses you off if you have to go, but there is some gal in there dressing because she’s afraid to let anyone see her in her underwear.
And this doesn’t just happen at the gym. Go to any public camping ground or venue where womens shower rooms exist. Women are so insecure about their bodies there will be a line waiting for the showers because the women have to use the shower as their private dressing room.
However in some places it works to my advantage. When they just have an open shower are (no stalls) for the women, they never use it. So I can go take a shower any time during the meet.
…this is difficult for me to understand, this hang-up with nudity. I’m dutch and the sauna/steamroom at my gym even prohibits under/swimwear. And it’s a mixed sauna, so you’re sharing your space with [sometimes] lovely naked ladies. What’s so terrible about that? Don’t you think this fear of nakedness is going abit too far?
This topic reminded me of that basketball commercial where the guy is playing naked.

It’s the same with regard to sauna and steam room in the gym where I train, except for the lovely ladies, maybe, which are few and far between.
I like these rules the way the are. I believe the main issue here is not necessarily nakedness but rather things that go beyond mere nakedness. I for my part have no problem with nakedness.

I doubt anyone is talking about a “fear” of nakedness. When this turns into some homosexual safari for man meat, then it makes many Americans a tad edgy.
If a guy was naked and minding his own business in the locker room and getting dressed, there is no problem. I will simply turn my eyes elsewhere. If, however, this has turned into the supermodel escepades where dudes with hairy backs and flailing nutsacks are doing their turn on the catwalk, I begin to avoid the area.

Naked women/naked men, doesn’t matter. Only a very small percentage of the general population looks better with their clothes off. I workout in a Gold’s gym. I can count on one hand the women there that I would like to be sitting naked in a sauna with. They are likely the ones that would avoid a co-ed naked sauna like the bird flu.
As far as dealing with the creepy old naked guys (“CONGs”)in the men’s locker room, I rarely get to the gym before 9:00 at night. By that time, it’s not asshole to bellybutton in the locker room, the CONGs have wandered home, climbed into their pajamas, and shuffled off to bed.
