Yep. When I started lifting I was only taking a multi-vitamin, fish oil, and using Metabolic Drive to more easily bring my protein up. Nothing fancy. I only got more interested in some of this recently, particularly thinking about joint health since I’m in my 40’s. I don’t have any issues and I want to keep it that way.
Re: Sleep. It’s a chronic problem for me too. I get to sleep easily but have a hard time staying asleep. I go in cycles of waking up very early - wide awake at 4:00 am. I’m gonna be one of those little old ladies who’s outside sweeping the front walk before dawn. Haha!
Depending on what your sleep issues are, you want to try to improve that. I know it can really mess with my recovery. I’ve tried ZMA and Melatonin but didn’t feel like either were really effective for me. I know some people have had really good results.
You have been such a great help @anon71262119 as ALWAYS!!! The nutrition shop gave me samples which I didn’t even think about. I also have vitamins and am good to go.
I found the most AMAZING gym ever today not only does it have everything but it’s not crowded!!! This is freakin awesome and feeds my addiction!!! I am joining next week and I get free yoga classes for my rest days.
Cable Rows 55lbs 1x12, 70lbs 2x12, 85lbs 1x12
Wide grip pull downs 70lbs 2x12, 85lbs 2x12
Another exercise but no clue name 3x85
I was a little sore before my workout but killed it and upped my weights, woot woot
Farm Workout:
Hay Bale Throws- 50lbs 110 bales and it was just myself and my dad so they were far throws!!
Beer Can Waddle- new exercise because stupid bastards decided to use our corn as a maze and dropped beer cans all down through it. I went into the field to pick them up but since the corn is so tall you don’t want to damage it moving through it.
I am putting a deer camera out tonight to catch them!
I like @anon71262119 's thoughts on supplements. They are really a minor element of success, especially when you are a beginner. For an already lean beginner like yourself, I’d put gym consistency at the forefront right now, with regular diet a close second behind. On that note, for me, supplements are basically convenient food. Here’s what I take.
Creatine - Cheap, no risk. Some people benefit a fair bit, others not so much. I’m not quite sure how much I get out of it, to be honest. I could definitely lift successfully without it, but I still take it. 5g per day.
ZMA - Just started taking this. Not sure if it does anything.
Fish Oil - Been taking this for a while. Its good fat, that’s it. Nothing magic.
Vitamin D3 - I’m a pale northerner, so this is probably my most vital supplement for health.
Protein powder - I’ve tried many, but I use the stuff they sell on this site. Metabolic Drive. Its food. Easy and convenient protein source at a reasonable per-serving cost. Nothing magic.
Plazma - I’ve been taking this for a few months now and I really like it. I’m slowly starving myself, and it definitely helps me have better workouts. It is quite expensive though, and I wouldn’t recommend it for any beginner unless you have cash to burn. Its still just food. Nothing magic.
Z12 - This is the sleep aid sold by this website. I don’t have a LOT of difficulty sleeping, but this definitely helps me get better rest. Works as advertised for me.
Keep refusing them. Eat food. Protein powder is fine if you like smoothies or protein shakes but so far from necessary or even beneficial over real food. For sleep limit caffeine intake and remove electronics from your bedroom. I assume you are in the country which is also a plus, you should have less outside light.
I really enjoy this kind of work. The beer can waddle would be fun with out the beer cans.
@twojarslave thank you for letting me know how things work for you. My weight has been pretty close to where I want and I’m not starving which makes me happy. If you enjoy farm work so much we have more hay to unload HA!!! I appreciate your encouragement!
@BOTSLAYER I agree, I probably don’t need any of that because things seem to be going well. I have no clue what all of it does but everyone seems to be taking something so I wasn’t sure what I missed. The protein is great with my busy work days and I make killer shakes. I do drink caffeine throughout the day so that might hinder my sleeping some. I am happy to know you also enjoy the farm work. I am so girly people can’t believe I do farm work but I put my makeup on and go play in the dirt… very rewarding!!
Just quickly about sleep: I know it’s important, but I’m going to go ahead and say as far as I’ve experienced it comes a distant second to nutrition. If you can get one good sleep per week you’re golden as long as your nutrition is good. Vice versa won’t work: you can get the best sleep all the time but if your nutrition is off, it won’t do you much good.
glad you liked it! I dunno how big Primal Scream are where you’re from but they were huge here in the 90s…
I have actually been checking out your log every now and then but you’ve been getting so much great advice from some of my favourite posters I didn’t want to muddy the waters with my filth
Please muddy the waters anytime you would like. Your sense of humor is always welcome on my log!! I am so thankful to have the support of such great people I honestly haven’t heard of them but am open to new. What country are you from?
Well I promise I’ll stop by more in future. Yeah we’re a supportive bunch especially to someone who’s really thrown themselves in to the lifestyle like you have.
Alright so I keep messing with @MarkKO about slightly hearing his accent in a video he posted… I’m sure yours is awesome too especially with your humor!! I bet Scotland is a beautiful place. I’m from the United States and talk with a country accent but you might not get what I mean when I say that.
@MarkKO I’m sure I’ll LOVE it but apparently I’m not smart enough to follow the link you posted. Could you post it again for me because the link kinda looks jacked up… please
