You both kids, lol.
Mileage? LOL

LOL, Alright @2busy maybe your a little older but very active and look great from what you post. I know people joke about you having 9 kids but it keeps your heart young and makes you a stronger person. You are impressive to me for sure!! I feel as though I have mileage from the craziness I’ve been through making me grow up quick. I do not have kids but that would definitely add I’m sure.
Today was a rest day but I went on a five mile bike ride which really isn’t much. I learned that I need to work my legs more because they were burning on the hills and I want to do better. Got plenty of sun on the boat and it made my small muscles pop more which is awesome ![]()
You recently asked about getting help with spotting on your BP in the Beginner’s Forum.
That made me think of something. You might have already practiced this. If so, ignore me. With your Squat, it’s good to just practice lowering the bar to the safeties a few times. Even do it once a week or so. With the bar, then do it with some plates so it’s a little heavy.
Make sure you get comfortable knowing that if you get stuck where you can’t go UP… No Fear. You can just lower the bar back down.
This is a good point. Learn how to fail safely so when you fail for real you don’t panic.
@anon71262119 and @MarkKO I completely agree and appreciate the advice! I do that when I squat on my own and it helps a lot. I’ll never ignore any advice from the two of you ![]()
For the record, I actually googled “How to fail a squat” just to know what to do when I am in that position. Part of me thought that was defeatist thinking, but part of me also thought that if you don’t fail, you’re not trying hard enough.
BTW, there were about fifty how to fail videos for squats…google rocks.
I’ll share a few thoughts on failing squats. I’ll start by picking on @The_Myth.
There’s some truth to this, but you can absolutely succeed at squatting without failing any squats. I managed to take my squat from completely untrained with a roughly 275 lb max to a beltless 495 lb squat, without failing a single rep over the course of just over one year of squatting multiple times per week.
There is also truth to this. The first time I did fail a squat, I did so on the 3rd rep of a set with 455 pounds on my back. This is not the best time to figure out what happens when you fail a squat, but luckily I managed to navigate the situation with my body intact.
My advice is to spend a little time learning how to bail out of a squat, but don’t ever get under the bar if you don’t think you will be able to own the weight. Squat with confidence. The more quality reps you get in, the more PR’s you set with good, clean reps, the more confident you will be. That said, knowing what to do when things go wrong can also contribute to that confidence.
To summarize, my mindset when squatting is to push myself as hard as I can, but I never, ever hesitate to rack the bar if things don’t feel right or if I don’t think I’m going to get the next rep. It is a balancing act between seeking rewards born from risk and seeking safety born from conservation. As long as you are progressing, then you are training hard enough.
@The_Myth awesome idea to look that up on Google!! Sometimes I forget there is a video for EVERYTHING!!!
@twojarslave I completely understand what you are saying too. That’s a good way to look at fails for sure. As soon as I get the weight on my back if it doesn’t feel right I rack right away and go lower until my confidence kicks back in.
I never thought my t-nation buddies would encourage me to practice failure HAHA but I know what you all mean!
Feel free brother.
This. I’ve gone from 140 to a 1RM of 295 and other than being a little high, I haven’t failed - but, see below.
Yeah, at 53 years old, with a thirteen year old, a ten year old, and a mortgage, this is not how I want to roll. My greatest fear has always been getting hurt, and that’s my issue.
My thoughts in a nutshell.
I’ve told this story many times, but the FIRST time I tried squats I was using a Smith and fell on my butt. I didn’t get hurt, but it scared me. It’s been kind of a mental thing with me ever since. That and a couple of other things that have made me afraid to get heavy with my squats. I’m getting over it now. Finally.
I think I’ve never really been afraid to fail when I squat because the first time I did it didn’t hurt even though I got stapled. The second time, a while later I just shrugged the weight back and stood up.
Oh @countrygirl2016, where are you?
At first I thought you meant location but 10 days??? Birthday month (how we roll south of the border)? Are you in Playa del Carmen and didnt say anything?
@The_Myth and @BOTSLAYER thank you both for checking in on me
I have been extremely busy with work and traveling. I am doing well and still staying active. If I went to Playa del Carmen you would be the first to know so you could give me the breathtaking tour!! I appreciate the thoughtfulness of both post because it’s easy to fall out of my workout routine when work gets this busy.
Good to see you are still about and keeping active, even when being kept busy with work. How is everything going at your end?
Just checking in, still travelling?
I’m back!!! Work has been crazy busy but thankfully has mellowed out. I hope you all are doing well and I’ll be posting more soon.
Good to see you’re still around. Life gets in the way sometimes.
Hope all is well!
Tonight was not hardcore at all. I’ve been traveling with work and keeping active but not lifting like I was or wanted to. I am also on short term medicine that makes me tired. I know it sounds like excuses but between work life and personal I’m a hot mess!!!
Anyways:
Only 65lbs x 18 bench
Only 25lbs x 48 rows
Only 30 crunches
I have been soooooo pissed off lately and was looking for a release which didn’t happen!!!
