Countrygirl Training Log #1

@BOTSLAYER love the idea of soccer guards! I bruise so easily and that will for sure protect. Hell no I’m not wearing pants to gym ever. I have pants but for running outside.

@The_Myth thank you for the knee sleeve idea and information!! I thought the staying warm part was funny too  My gym is hot and I had a hard enough time putting a tshirt on for squats! A little battle scars are cool but I’ll cover up for comfort.

YES!!! @2busy that’s exactly what I was worried about!! I may not look like it yet but you watch me flex while lifting and the “gymtimidation” starts  HA no worries I don’t got to PF

I’m 53 next week and it’s more about keeping them “warm” between sets so I don’t break a hip and get pneumonia.

Oops, think I may have jinxed myself.

@The_Myth HA! …your funny and even though your turning 53 soon you have the athletic fit figure of a much younger man. Now you need your mind to stop being old and do the same  (joke)

SOOOOO I’m a little frustrated because taking the video of me deadlifting 125lbs 12x’s worked great and you could clearly see the whole thing… the awful part was playing it back and seeing how out of shape I look :rage: I’m so upset at how my body looks right now it’s embarrassing!!!

As far as the deadlifts… my breathing was good, my feet were under the bar, my shins were touching the bar, I took my time, I guided up my body, my left knee is bruised from hitting, and my booty didn’t look far enough out. The reps felt good however I know something isn’t right and I’m not posting the video of my awful body until something changes.

I know I’m feeling sorry for myself but I also know I can and will do better. My feelings after the video crushed me!

Don’t let the body image you’re seeing weigh you down. It’s pure motivation. Nothing more. Keep training and the results will come.

Putting videos up here is a little intimidating. There are NO videos in my first log. I had friends at my gym that I asked for form help. Plus, a lot of people here who lift for BBing won’t ever put videos up. Their lifts often just aren’t that exciting.

That said, lifting pics often look pretty unattractive. Even the guys who don’t have a gut kinda look like they do when they have some blocky T-shirt on and a belt cinched around their waist. Everyone looks HOT in knee wraps. It wouldn’t be so bad if there was a wind machine blowing their hair back or something. Those Victoria Secret models always have wings on their backs and they look great. We could try that. Haha.

I wish I lived in your area and could lift with you. That would be cool. Don’t be hard on yourself. You’re young and pretty. And you’re a total sweetheart. You’re making progress. Don’t sweat it.

@jerod your absolutely right I should only see it as motivation because the negativity brought me down really fast. I look at old pictures of myself and haven’t felt this way about how I look. Your motivation was much needed and appreciated!

@anon71262119 your words always mean so much to me!! I know I don’t need to be perfect to post but it’s extremely intimidating with the progress and outstanding bodies I see on here. I want and need the critiquing but didn’t realize this would be so hard.
HAHA… I would love you all to wear wings and have the fans on (good picture you painted)!!
No I understand what your saying. Needed the laugh
I wish you lived near me too because ladies around here don’t lift and I’m not going to ask random guys for help. I’m thankful to have help with your post and the motivation. I try to stay positive with everything involved in this process just had a rough moment. Please don’t ever leave t-nation because I’m sure I’ll need you tons more  thank you!!!

One benefit of video is being able to watch yourself and actually see what you feel and connect what you feel to what is real.

There are many tutorial videos on line for you to watch and compare yourself to.

Most on this forum started somewhere near where you are starting, or have friends or family that were in a similar position. Just remember you are much more respected for your tenacity than you ever will be judged for your appearance.

Get it!

@The_Myth I’ve been watching videos like crazy before and after my lifts!! I try to learn everything I can and practice before I actually do my sets. I love it here because I can learn and ask all the questions I want. I know many of the questions are very amateur but I appreciate everyone taking the time for them.
I may get pissed and discouraged but am not giving up on this!

never think this. You just went white water rafting and hiking all day and you work on a farm. You are in great shape. ignore what those stupid bleeping photo shopped fake natty POS’s say and look like in the magazines and videos.

I know I care way too much about what I look like so I also know you cant turn it off. But try. Every day it gets a little easier.

Check my profile squat and DL vids. Looks like I’ve got an alien trying to get out. I do have a gut anyways though.

This.

If you train alone, your phone/camera is your training partner. Use it.

Thanks for your nice comments.

MarkKO and Myth are right. **There is benefit in taping your lifts just for yourself. You can use them to start really looking at your form which will make you more confident. You won’t see everything a strength coach or experienced person would see, but you’ll start to see things to work on. That’s good.

A lot of us are self-taught. Even Alpha pretty much taught himself just like you are doing. Watch videos, practice… You don’t have to put your lifts up on the internet. Lots of logs here are just recording training. Unfortunately there’s no longer a PM system here or I’d say just ask someone who has experience coaching if they’d mind taking a look at your form privately. It’s a little bit harder to connect like that now.

About body image, lifting can help with that because you start to appreciate your body more for what it can do. Every strength gain feels like a little victory. It’s really nice to focus on that.

Yes, there are a lot of really nice physiques here, but most people are just regular folks. Many also trying to drop a little weight, or not be so skinny, whatever. And nobody is good at everything. @BrickHead is cutting so he’s been doing sprints. He’s not a runner, and some people raz him a little about his form. I kinda love it that he’ll put it up there on FB anyway. Haha! There’s something a little bit awesome about being comfortable in your skin and just not giving a damn. And it’s serving his purpose. He doesn’t need to look like Bolt.

I’m trying to be a lot more like that. Babysteps. As you keep going to the gym over the next couple of months, you’ll probably make a few lifting friends who can help you in person.

You know this, but even of the more advanced, beautiful builds, you’re often looking at pictures of someone on a stage or all prepped for a photo. Been cutting for a few weeks at least, are water depleted, spray tanned… On an average day, they’ve eaten breakfast and have been drinking water so they probably have a little food belly, they might be pasty white so their muscle definition doesn’t show, and they’re probably shlepping around the gym in some ratty t-shirt looking sweaty. You get the idea. I have pictures of me taken on the same day where I look really built, or like “does she even lift.” Just depending on the pose and the angle, and if I’m flexing, yada yada. Everybody here knows that.

Last, those Victoria Secret models are never photographed bracing their core and giving it their “max effort” face. Haha.

Been a few days since I have checked in, but hope all is well. There is some great advice in here and there is a lot to learn by self critiquing your form and using online videos, but everyone here has all been in the same position at some point and will be more than happy to help.

Keep at it, you are making great progress.

Hey you all, thank you so much for picking me up when I was down on myself! I am feeling much better about my progress and your kind words made me think more positive. While I was out tonight many people noticed a change in my body which was awesome. I know I’m not a big person but want to be toned especially in my stomach area. I’m not discouraged but driven and pushing even harder!!!
