Countrygirl Training Log #1

no such thing as a stupid question. Well obviously there is, that’s just a bullshit thing people say, but your question definitely wasn’t.

I’m not really a fan of that particular routine. It seems to be a full body but yet neglects pretty much all the muscles you can’t see in the mirror.

If the full body workout is a route you want to go down, then something like:

Squats
Dumbell Bench superset with Dumbbell Row
Leg Press
Pulldowns superset with Lateral Raises
Core Stuff

That’s hitting pretty much everything, and takes out what I consider to be exercises that are only used in specific situations (like shrugs - I don’t feel you need to be doing those at this stage). And there’s a little core stuff at the end because I know how much you chicks love that shit.

Supersetting will keep your heart rate up a bit, so more metabolic benefit, and all the exercises are fairly easy to do so you shouldn’t be scared to do the routine by yourself.

@Yogi1 you are funny, honest, and give outstanding advice  (don’t let it go to your head)!! There are definitely stupid questions for sure.
I appreciate the plan you gave me to work with and how simple but challenging it is!! Supersets are something I love doing. I want my ass kicked during that hour or so and feel pride later. Please keep helping me in the future.

it’s too late, my ego’s already totally out of control.

That routine is just a template. Feel free to sub out exercises for other variations of the same exercise (barbells instead of dumbbells, inclines, declines, etc) if you feel you get more out of them. You can add stuff too like arm work, rotator cuff stuff, whatever.

When your ass is so rock hard you can bounce a coin off of it, get a tattoo on it that says “Yogi built this” and post a picture

HAHAHAHA freakin hilarious :joy: I will add that to my list of goals!!!
I am going to try the picture/video thing so people can critique me on here. I genuinely want the bad and good comments so I can learn.

That’ll do nicely. Do thrice a week for eight to 12 weeks progressively adding weight.

I had one of the best workouts tonight and increased my weight without a trainer :muscle: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: I benched 85lbs and hit all 12 each time!!! I CAN AND WILL DO THIS!!! Thanks for the support and telling me I can.

You go girl.

Just remember, the hardest part of working out is putting your shoes on to leave the house. Once you put your shoes on, it’s all down hill from there.

Kill it!

@The_Myth and @littlesleeper Thank you for being excited for me too!!! I thought about having a lazy Friday night workout but am happy I decided to take it to the gym. I didn’t pay attention to anyone around me just got my weights, turned up my music, and stayed focused on reps/form. Even though I increased my weight I feel like I could have added a little more since I hit all reps without being sloppy. I know it’s not always going to be great and I’ll get discouraged but it was a little victory not having a trainer.

This is a good target to aim for almost every time you train. You’ll get into the habit of not missing lifts which is invaluable when you attempt PRs.

Word. Lots of little victories add up to big ones down the track. If you can accept that there will be bad sessions now, you’ll be way ahead of the game.

@MarkKO Thank you  I’ll keep that in mind!!

Sounds like you have a solid plan there from Yogi’s template. I generally like to keep simple and make sure there is a squat or deadlift movement, one form of pressing, one form of row or pull ups and some form of core or ab work in each session.

Glad to see you smashing it without a trainer.

Thank you for the post @Ironwarrior25  I appreciate your thoughts and encouragement!! I went to the gym today and was lost because I didn’t have a plan. I left early and am going to try again tonight. I will get my shit together just feel a little awkward.

I used to do this. And I would just rep out light weights for curls and triceps and then find a reason to go get coffee. And, I never met my goals.

So my brother in law, who is jacked, asked me - do you keep a log and increase weight each week?

Wow, dat shit be cray cray. Write shit down? No way!

So, then, I started to.

Which brings me obliquely to my point. Always have a plan!

It can be a shitty plan, but, have a plan.[quote=“Yogi1, post:203, topic:219320”]

This is your plan.

Goblet squats or are you going to try the barbell? Have a plan. For starters, just do 3x8, 5x5, it doesn’t really matter.

DB Bench is self explanatory, but pick a weight and a rep scheme. 5x10 for all of you exercises might be ambitious, but just pick the right weight. Do 3x8, it will be fine.

Same with the leg press.

For core, do crunches today, hanging leg raises next time, and bicycle crunches after that. It’s all good.

Do you need help with figuring out sets and reps? If you do, that’s okay, we all do - @MarkKO is struggling with that right now too. It’s a part of the process.

So, goals? Lose weight, get jacked? Those will influence the rep schemes.

You can get help here. And, you will go into that gym like a boss and make those weights your bitches!

You are amazing @The_Myth and this was extremely helpful!!! I’m not only happy to hear this is common but the pointers of easy things I can do on that’s like today are so helpful :grimacing: You are a funny smart man. I’ll make those weights my bitches for sure!

By the way, I stole that from @Spock81. I mean, I know it’s from BREAKING BAD, but, I stole it from her. But she really didn’t steal it from Jesse Pinkman in BREAKING BAD, because he just calls people bitches.

Except that he means it as a proper noun, so it’s Bitches. And, it’s always plural. So if I was just talking to you, it would still be Bitches.

Actually, I don’t think she stole it from BREAKING BAD. I think it’s original for her because she says she is going to make 225 her squat bitch. That’s going to happen the day I make 315 my squat bitch. And we are getting close.

She probably won’t comment here, but you should check her log. It’s

https://t-nation.com/t/what-business-is-it-of-yours-where-im-from-friendo/208666/604.

She’s also second guessing herself, but she’s a beast…in a good way. Check it out.

A little random tonight, sorry, my bad.

It’s OK @The_Myth you might be a trifle random but it’s some damn fine advice.

Always. Have. A. Plan.

@countrygirl2016 you’ll do fine. Right now one of the best investments you can make is a reasonably solid day to a page diary and a pen to go with it. It will live in your gym bag. You will write out your training for the day in it before you hit the gym, and during your training you will write down whatever notes seem relevant in it.
