I watch my carb, protein, and fat intake pretty closely, but I get confused by some food labels because the numbers don’t add up at times. For example, an 8 oz. glass of wine is listed as having 100 calories, but seems to only be made up of 8 grams of carbs, and apparently no fat and no protein. But 8 grams of carbs would only be 32 calories, so what gives? Maybe alcoholic carbs have more calories?
Alcohol has 7 calories per gram… that’s what’s skewing your figures.
You’re right, alchohol does have 7 calories per gram, but then that only makes 54 total calories in the glass of wine…what gives???
Alcohol is not a carbohydrate. It is its own macronutrient (i.e., separate from fat, protein, and carbs). It has 7 cal/gram. The 8g of carbs in the wine would total 32 cals, then the alcohol would add another 7 cal/g.
8oz=225g
alcohol 12% of 225=27g=189cal+32cal
8% of 225=18g =126 cal+32cal
I think there’s a need for a new supplement…
Zero-Calorie Alcohol.
Ofcourse, fact being that the body converts alcohol to
some “fucked up fat” and that fucked up fat chains make you
all strange will make it quite the challange.
But I would defn’t be a buyer
