Hey…
What can I replace cottage cheese with? I don’t really like it all that much.
I buy it and then throw it out because it sits and expirers…
I’m looking for something with the same nutritional qualities of cottage cheese though…
Thanks…
LJ

Have you tried putting some cinamman and splenda in the cottage cheese…it really makes it taste good. I also like mixing in natty pn anc choclate whey.
I also don’t like the tast of it, but mask it w/ some fat free no sugar added yogurt. I started out having more yogurt then cottage cheese but now I only mix 6 oz of the yogurt w/ 24 oz of cottage cheese.
i think low fat cottage cheese tastes horrible, but actually like the real full fat stuff.
If you like canned peaches throw some in with your cottage cheese. I myself love it like that and you can choose the peach syrup if you want higher calories and sugar such as post workout or the pear juice variety for lower calories sugar.
I started with a higher fat version and mixed blueberries with it over time I removed the blueberries and got lower fat versions. I can now eat a cup of nonfat Cottage Cheese and enjoy it.
Anyone tried the Riccotta cheese? I tried it and it seemed sweet and more like cream cheese than cottage, but I am not sure that it has the same nutritional benefits as the real deal. It tasted great, however.
I’m ready for y’all to say YUCK! but I sort’ve enjoy mixin it with canned salmon! you get salmon, you get the cottage cheese, good stuff! OR maybe just try it with some pepper on it, that’s good too.
Puree the cottage cheese (w/ one of those hand stick blenders) and then mix it w/ Low-Carb Grow!. I also mix half-cup of whole plain yogurt w/ Grow! and then add ground flax seed meal, rasberries or whatever (John Berardi provides such a recipe w/ his DVD)
As I mentioned in a past cottage cheese thread, I could live off the stuff, but I could never eat it with sweet foods. That makes me gag. I only eat mine mixed with salsa. Most people who see me eat this think it is very strange, but the two people I could convince to try it ended up liking it.

It’s not bad with salmon. I like it better mixed with tuna.
Put a serving of cottage cheese in a blender with Grow!, 16oz of water, some frozen fruit. I get a pretty good consistancy if I blend it for about 10 seconds. With those other things mixed in, I honestly can’t taste the bitterness of the cottage cheese at all. It thickens up the shake and tastes better overall, in my opinion. Try it. You might want to adjust quantities of ingrediants to suit your tastes.
How do I love thee…let me count the ways.
with tuna
with fruit
with anything
Plain, fat-free cottage cheese with just a sprinkle of salt…yum!

I believe it was Chris Shugart who said something along the lines of “grow up” on this subject.
Seriously, I’ve found that just about everything can be an acquired taste. You start out not liking it, but you stick with it and after a while you start thinking it’s actually pretty good. The first time I had PowerDrive, I thought it tasted like ass. The first time I had classic Grow!, I thought it tasted like ass. The first time I had low-carb Grow!, I thought it tasted like ass. In all three cases, it took less than a week to start actively liking them – a lot. So maybe all you need to do is go on a concerted plan of eating cottage cheese every day for a week or two.
Alternately, maybe there is something your body doesn’t like about cottage cheese as a food source. In that case, see the other advice here. (I haven’t read it all, so if there’s nothing good suggested… well, gee, sorry. Wish I could be of more help. But I think the folks here are smart enough to come up with a few good alternatives.)
Mixing cottage cheese half and half with milk and chucking in a scoop of protein powder can make a pretty good semblance of a good thick milkshake. (I tend to use a cheap shitty protein powder for this, because Grow! is good with just plain water, but other stuff needs help to taste halfway decent.)
Cottage cheese has always had a whole different problem for me: I don’t feel like I should like it. I do, weirdly enough; I like the taste and the texture and the smell and everything. What I don’t like is the IDEA of eating cottage cheese. Once I can convince myself to throw some in a bowl and take a bite, I can quite happily pack away two pounds of the stuff – but it’s really hard for me to get to that point. Hard enough that I, too, have unopened and expired cottage cheese in my refrigerator at this very moment.

Riccotta cheese is made with the leftover fluid from the cottage cheese making process. Cottage cheese has mostly casein in it while Riccotta cheese has a lot of whey in it.
i just take a spoonful with water, it takes a while but it ups your water intake, and the ability to eat the stuff
JPBear - salsa goes good with anything. But it’s gotta be spicy.
If you’re having trouble stomaching the fat free or 1% stuff, try the 4%. There’s a huge difference in terms of taste and consistency. It’s much creamier.
When I eat it plain I just add a little salt. Or, I’ll mix in some vanilla or chocolate protein and/or natural PB. You can also mix it with your oatmeal for a great PWO snack.
Stop and Shop brand low fat cottage cheese with pinaple isn’t so bad
when I was a little kid I ate a lot of cottage cheese, I called it “Bulla Bulla” It was always full fat stuff, so the first time I had low/no fat, I wanted to gag. Get the full fat version, it’s got more protein, fewer carbs, and tastes a ton better (even with salmon!)
