Correlation Between Weight Lifting and Bone Density

Hey all I’ve been training for about two years and along with gaining muscle, I think my collarbones have been increasing in diameter. I am curious as to everybody’s thoughts on bone density increasing with muscle mass.

your bones are getting thinker as an adaption to frequently having stress places on them.

do you really think a 5’4" 90 pound, untrained guy’s arms won’t snap if he manages to unwrack a 500 pound bench press.

bones are livingtissue too constantly reforming
bone density is increased by hard body conditioning (technique used by many martial artists)

also low rep ranges with high weight increase bone density

All right, I’ll make it simple, even though I found the guys collarbone comment suspiciously trollish:

A 300+ lbs Powerlifter with an elite total in his weight class will have a dramatically more resilient skeleton than a fitness moron or untrained person (virtually the same, anyway).

The bones may also be a little larger due to calcification and whatnot, but I severely doubt that your collarbones, especially at the op’s stage, will look much different from the outside…
