I will let you figure that out for yourself.
I was half joking about the first part. Of course the CDC isnt going to put out an article saying flu shots don’t work and then tell you to take one, that would be ridiculous.

Because the state of our health changes through out our lives.
I’ve never gotten or even worried about a flu shot until this year, because last year I entered a new risk category for complications/fatality.
So there’s that.
It wouldn’t be any more ridiculous than what you said in multiple responses to that article being posted. But yes it would be ridiculous.
It would also go against all the statements made some of which I cut out so you could see without going through the whole thing.
It’s the same type of thinking that will screw us with the eventual vaccine. “Well doesn’t work 100% so why bother?”
I think people forget that until the later half of the last century any given flu could decimate regions, countries and continents.
If the Spanish Flu occurred today, we’d have gruesome pictures all over the web, there’d be rioting in supermarkets if not in the streets, and there’d be martial law yesterday.
Non-sequitur: I watched how toilet paper is made on an episode of “How It’s Made”. Absolutely hilarious that people think there’ll be a shortage of recycled paper, fabricated by machines.
They literally said the exact opposite in that article. The vaccine is usually effective, it may not be effective if you encounter another strain, but if even you are one of the small population that gets it and still gets infected with the strain you were vaccinated against, you’ll be less likely to die, less likely to be admitted to the ICU, and will spend less time in the hospital that if you hadn’t been vaccinated. I’m not sure how that’s admitting it doesn’t work. It was saying, in almost all instances, you’ll be better off. There are vaccines that are made to eradicate illnesses and vaccines that are made to keep them at controllable levels. This is the latter, and any coronavirus vaccine may be the same.
Missed where you said it was half joking, lol. Tongue-in-cheek or not, a lot of people have the same question and it’s again, not a cut and dry thing, I don’t think.
An acquaintance on Facebook started the “Does anybody even know anybody that has…” bullshit. Not surprising though because he does have a long history of conflict with reality.
Like, unless there are bodies piling up he has doubt. Then again, he’s a flat earther who thinks 9/11 was a false flag operation.
Do you have any FB acquaintances who are worried about the next wave of alien abductions, and think that 9/11 was worse than Pearl Harbor? What are those people saying?
What ridiculous things did I say there? You just love arguing about nothing. You must be very boring in real life.
That was a joke
Is that ridiculous?
This?
You have only been locked up in your house for a few days and you’re already losing it, not a good outlook for the coming months.
Here is the sort of timeline we are looking at before things can start to return to somewhat normal:
The question is what is going to happen to all the people who can’t pay their rent or mortgages, as well as their landlords and banks. They are giving people a “mortgage deferral” in Canada, but they are charging interest for the extra time as well. And what if you no longer have a job? The virus is one thing, but what can be done to fix the coming economic problems?
The CDC part. You went back and said you were half joking. After we had discussed it for a while.
I’m good and thanks for your concern. I think one of us is freaking out over this situation far less than the other, but oh well. All I can do is share some optimism and rational response to a few things with you.
It truly will be ok. Maybe not the exact same as before. But ok.
Measures to get by in the short term is what most are going to do. We don’t know all the types of economic problems nor the severity of them to do much else. One month of national shutdown is going to look vastly different than three months. Keeping essential businesses open and the amount of work people are doing based around them is going to look vastly different based on the time frames. Some businesses deemed essential now may shut down. Same shut down now may open. I can’t speak for Canada, but we aren’t even remotely on the same page as a country. Some places have been essential areas for a while and some haven’t even started. In all likelihood different locations are going to need different ideas. No way of knowing yet.
It’s like wondering what our arm workout should look like in 6 months a week after we broke both arms. Take a pause to heal, decide when to exercise again based on when one feels better, figure out what to do based on that information.
Crazy.
Hubei residents say the coronavirus likely killed 42,000-46,800 people in Wuhan, not 2,500, and that Chinese officials are paying families hush money to keep the real number of deaths secret.
You’re not too sharp these days
I’m just being realistic, and seeing as me and my wife are still working I have much less to worry about than a lot of people.
Yeah, but the projections right now are for several months. The UK is saying 6 months, Trump just extended the emergency measures until April 30th and that doesn’t mean it wont be extended. I certainly hope it’s not 6 months, but I doubt it will only be one. The infection rate is going to have to be near zero before they consider ending the shutdown, unless it just drags on for months and months and becomes unsustainable.
It makes you wonder, with conspiracy theorists pointing fingers at Bill Gates (among others), if he is in a league with the Chinese to deceive the world.
Do you believe the news coming out of China though? It’s hard to at this point.
China is doing a lot of testing. South Korea is also doing a good job of testing. Once China got serious in January they have been quite open about their cases so yes the good news is they are seeing very few infections at this point. The US needs to get its testing system organized so we see what is going on.
Either China is telling the truth, or Bill Gates is covering for them, and I don’t have a good explanation for why.
Nah.
In a round about way I was saying that even with pictures, videos, and everything else available currently, there’s still a segment of the population willing to say “Nah, is this really real, or just another scam like (insert other world changing event here).” .
Sorry if the way I related it bothered you.
No, it really doesn’t. Leaving aside the complete absurdity of your statement, Bill Gates is a known commodity, and so is the CCP. And they aren’t even remotely in the same world. This is why I can’t take you seriously. You say things like this repeatedly and then a few posts later say you were just joking, or just wondering out loud, or whatever.
I know you’re worried, and you’re not alone. A lot of people are. But quit saying things like this.
While this is true, we have long since passed the point where extensive testing will have an immediate effect by itself. We let the wolf in with the sheep, and there’s no going back now. We still need extensive testing but it’s not going to be enough to reverse or stop anything by itself. Besides which, on the current track we are probably about 4-5 weeks away from a shortage of the raw reagents to make said tests.
That may change but it’s the way we’re trending as is.
EDITED–spelling
Similarly, I was just saying that as always, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
Bothered by other posters who shall not be named, but we’re all good.
I’m supposed to assume you’re joking when you say outlandish things? You said you were half joking after realizing the article didn’t say anything you did. I’m going to have to assume you’re joking far more often I guess.
Are you though? Sometimes you seem to be and other times not so much.
Some are some aren’t. Hell our own President just added like 20 some odd days. The UK is absolutely not definitely doing 6 months. Like all other countries they are going to wait and see. Which makes sense. The worst possible predictions may be true and if they are no one is going to blink an eye about more time. They may not be true. Just like this whole thing we have absolutely no idea. A few weeks ago the US President was saying nothing to worry about. Then a month, then a few weeks, then back to a month. The quote that I see said could be 6 months to normal. And then says not a 6 month lockdown. Could be and “normal” give a lot of wiggle room.
Who is they and how do you absolutely know what they are going to do? You don’t, I don’t, and countries don’t. They are all letting this thing play out and see where it goes. Makes complete sense.
I’m sure it makes some people wonder. Probably the same people who say Soros did it, Sandy Hook was faked, 9/11 inside job, etc. But it doesn’t make me wonder.
