The US dollar is going up, pretty much everything else is going down. Only reason the US dollar is rising is because people are buying $US all over since itās likely the safest currency.
Everywhere, businesses are going to close, people are going to lose jobs, and a lot of products will become scarce. Hopefully basics like food will still be readily available and prices wonāt rise, but who knows. This is actually the perfect time for a communist/socialist takeover because if people are desperate and hungry then nationalizing businesses, taking control of supply chains, and implementing price controls almost seems like the rational thing to do.
China will probably bounce back faster for the previously mentioned reasons and more. Capitalism requires a financial incentive to produce goods, with communism you do what the government says.
For Western countries to get back on their feet will take some sacrifices from big businesses and rich people, if they arenāt willing to help then it will be much worse.

Some food for thoughts about China and their economic future: keep in mind that while they locked down 60 millions people, they had 1 billion people still working and producing to compensate for the lockdown area. No other country in the world has this kind of asset. Their economy took a relatively small hit.
In Europe and USA, every single state is locking down, and doesnāt have any other workforce producing for them or carrying economy.
Also, āChina = communismā for the lulz. Itās a capitalistic dictatorship, might be considered capitalismās final form.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau here in Canada has still not declared a federal emergency. Several provinces, including Ontario where I am, have already done so.
the Feds are expanding Employment Insurance coverage to many who otherwise wouldnāt get it, and a Bill will be discussed in Parliament as to what further measures the government will take on Tuesday.
We have already largely closed our borders. I wonder about the condition of Trudeauās wife, who tested positive. I would wonder if she is in bad condition if it would weigh heavily on his stress tolerance.
No doubt people feel differently about this shit the moment someone close to them gets it. Always easy to ignore things until they hit you or loved ones.

Rand Paul has tested positive and I hope he has a speedy recovery. He also recently voted against something that would have provided many of the benefits he already enjoys to other people. His pay and his job are not in jeopardy while he is sick, while many Americans canāt say the same.
Another benefit towards the wealthy and connected is they are getting tested even while asymptomatic.
