Which one was that? If you don’t mind me asking.
Two fundamental strategies are possible: (a) mitigation, which focuses on slowing but not necessarily stopping epidemic spread – reducing peak healthcare demand while protecting those most at risk of severe disease from infection, and (b) suppression, which aims to reverse epidemic growth, reducing case numbers to low levels and maintaining that situation indefinitely. Each policy has major challenges. We find that that optimal mitigation policies (combining home isolation of suspect cases, home quarantine of those living in the same household as suspect cases, and social distancing of the elderly and others at most risk of severe disease) might reduce peak healthcare demand by 2/3 and deaths by half. However, the resulting mitigated epidemic would still likely result in hundreds of thousands of deaths and health systems (most notably intensive care units) being overwhelmed many times over. For countries able to achieve it, this leaves suppression as the preferred policy option.
A study from good old England. Even they know realize that you have to control this shit. If you just “let it go”, chaos is imminent. I dont think any economy likes chaos.
To chris_ottawa I have to say: If you have children, let the mother make the decisions, if you dont have children but dogs, let your partner make the decisions. If you dont have a partner but have a dog, you better follow that dog. I am sorry but you have brought up in this thread: letting it spread uncontrolled, really wild theories about the origin of this specific Corona virus. You seem to care more about the economy than cost of life. It is right now pretty easy to follow the advice from experts and they all say: Distance yourself as much as you can. Since you probably come from Canada or the USA you might threaten everyone that tries to come to close with one of your 1000 guns. Dont go to any social gathering. Stay at home as much as you can. I dont know about your news over there at the other side of the pond but over here it is easy to follow: STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM OTHER PEOPLE! Still, even here in Germany people dont get it. “Oh I dont have to go to the office, better chill out with my friends at that nice coffee shop.” This whole thing just shows one thing: Humanity is a huge piece of shit.
I already posted that twice.
Not trying to use this as a cop out, but who the fuck knows. I think the issue right now is more that we don’t know how long it will be and options as what to do economically may be limited. I mean it’s pretty well unprecedented and while I enjoy a good is what we’re doing right I’m not sure what the options all are at this point.
You’re not going to have any shortage of doomsday predictions scenarios from this.
Why be honest all of the sudden?
I mean we’re on a path to an almost all currency crisis…I mean right now the economy is in an unpredictable area essentially globally.
Inflation and all that are valid things to worry about. I just think it’s getting ahead of us right now. If you’re trying to make sure people have food, water, electricity for a short time you’re not really asking if it should be stopped because of the potential for future inflation.
I mean if you look back at the Great Depression people were asking the government for help. They were saying we are in a bad spot for necessities so help out.
I guarantee if Peter Schiff had no food and water he would want food and water. If it was brought to his door he wouldn’t say “you fools this could collapse the dollar!”
Sssh, we weren’t referring to you anyway haha
That was just bad off-the-cuff dark humor I was spouting off. There’s tons of great threads about getting jacked, strong, lean and everything in between on this site, which is why we all ended up here in the first place.
@ActivitiesGuy and I both started posting here around the same time. We both deadlifted 600+ lifetime natty. We both dig kettlebells (my Rogue 70lb is on its way to join the club). We’ve had a ton of great interactions in various training discussions over the years.
All these years later, when something big comes our way for the first time in a long time, he’s still here. He’s become a high level epidemiologist and he’s still here giving us the scoop when we need it the most.
I love you buddy. Thanks for all that you do!
Wow, now I really wanna read his take on this.
Haha fair enough. Stay safe up there man, it’s been pretty easy “down south” so far.
It’s in the other Covid thread. Great discussion on the “nerdy” stuff in there. This one more for policy discussions and updates on how people are doing in their spot.
That one has a lot of people who are more intelligent than me explaining how it all works.
I just want one for occasionally e-calling someone a mother fucker or piece of shit or something like that angry kraut did a couple of posts up!
We need to start one called “Da Caronas’, and why all you motherfuckers suck!”.![]()
My neighbors already think I’m weird as shit but it’s going to be heavy carries in the back yard for the foreseeable future!
Am I the “angry kraut”? You made me chuckle, but only for a short moment since I am an angry kraut and we are either serious or angry. No fun. Work. But from home. Keep social distance.
Gotta love global supply lines with your geopolitical enemies, amirite?
