What’s really disgusting is seeing people sample a grape in the supermarket. I remember one time the bakery section of the supermarket had a plate with cookies on it for people to try. People still took them.
How does this tie into seat belts and child safety seats?
I wasn’t thinking of masks specifically in terms of precedent here–more globally as restrictions and mandated behavior. Forced quarantine at ports and entry points, for instance (a thing we did in both 1700s and 1800s).
The Long History of Coercive Health Responses in American Law | Lawfare.
state and federal laws continue to authorize compulsory quarantine or isolation of disease carriers.
States’ powers of quarantine and isolation derive from their inherent police power to protect public health. In Gibbons v. Ogden , the Supreme Court listed “quarantine laws” and “health laws of every description” as within the reserved police powers of the states
However masks were mandated in areas during the 1918 flu. Requirements varied by region and locality the same as today. From what I remember it was more locally driven but I am not fresh on the topic.
Libertopia sounds awesome and I wish it existed and people were free to do whatever they wanted and they just chose on their own free will to do the right thing. Hell I wish that for us with laws.
But it’s nonsense to think a large society wants to live there. And double nonsense if we thought it could last. Modern society has rules for a reason. I’ll got to libertopia island and then watch as it quickly goes from no rules to many rules.
That’s a pretty general article. It mentions cities that mandated masks in 1918, but there’s very little specifics or data. From what I’ve been able to find the SF mask mandate was only two weeks long both times It was implemented. A far cry from a year plus.
Not sure that I’ve ever written anything that would lead a reasonable person to this conclusion. That fits “there oughta be a law” folks much better.
I view it a lot more like why are we having to ask people to do really easy things that are good for others? I’m not trying to sit here and pretend like I’m captain safety or aren’t a bit selfish at times. Of course I am. We all are.
But wearing a mask during a pandemic for a short period of time? Nah not a big deal. Making sure when I’ve had too much whiskey someone else drives? Not difficult. Slowing down in a school zone? Maybe I hate freedom or something but not even remotely inconvenient.
My main point was in a far more uncomfortable time and situation people did this and managed to survive it.
Hell that’s part of the reason I WANTED the President and his followers to take the shit seriously. I don’t enjoy wearing a mask or anything. Of course I thought it was better when I popped in the gas station or store without one. Who wouldn’t? The last year has been difficult but for the life of me I can’t understand how masks have made it even remotely difficult save for the incredibly small amount of people who may have medical issues for them.
My thing was why have we not banded together and taken these steps to hopefully get through it quicker? Why do we have our Vice President in the Mayo Clinic defying their rule and pictured as the only one without a mask? I mean it was (and still is) unreal to me. Trump had an easy political situation and he’s probably still President if he acts like anyone else before him would of. But he’s a child and got a ton of his child like followers to buy into it.
Smells like bullshit. Not unlike the earlier vaccine conspiracy theory you posted.
I don’t know one way or the other, and don’t really care; but your article has an important qualifier: “illegally.”
Agreed. But if read it goes into detail about the issues with the origin of this Covid conspiracy theory and why it is inaccurate. It’s intentional just like the vaccine issues in Israel conspiracy theory.
It’s yet another Covid-19 isn’t even bad the whole world is in on it to control everyone type nonsense.
This is complete bullshit. I swear this stuff is like Whack-a-Mole.
No disagreement here. But the thing is that in terms of legal precedent both it and the lawfare post I shared earlier show that government has the constitutional power to do such things. Whether that’s good or bad is an open question
Yeah, even a cursory examination would show that it’s a blatant lie. Your link is thorough, and ICD-10 codes do not contain ANY codes for ANY new virus. It’s not just covid. They ALL have to be generated and official guidance is always released any time a new code is generated.
And the idea that only single COD certificates could be counted as covid deaths is just straight up laughable. That is not the case for any other major health threat I can think of. I mean, it’s like they’re not even trying to come up with believable shit. Not that I want them to.
It would be funny if it weren’t so damned dangerous and tragic. There’s a special place in hell for people knowingly creating these sorts of disinformation campaigns.
“Can the government make me eat broccoli?” ![]()
I hope not. I hate broccoli!
All ideologies are utopian in nature.
I’ll just hide it in my napkin when they aren’t looking and throw it away. Just like I started doing in the 90’s with mom.
That J&J vaccine did a number on me last night. Fucking hell. I thought I was in the clear but 12hrs after getting stuck that shit got real, right in the middle of installing a new garage door opener. Was not ideal. Crazy how some people don’t react at all, while pussies like me end up hallucinating, shivering in a shower at 3am.
Real happy I’m done now though.
