What about just for foreign nationals? You can’t keep letting people from high risk countries in without quarantine. It doesn’t make any sense to allow this and to enforce lockdowns at the same time.
Here’s an example. 80% of our cases are from people coming in from overseas now that we’ve gotten the local situation under control.
And that’s exactly why so many people just shake their heads and go about their business as best as they can.
The rules seem random, (see: “peaceful protests”) vary from state to state, etc. I am optimistically predicting that a working vaccine will appear in timely fashion in the new year, wink wink.
I’m past discussing covid to be honest. I just randomly saw your post and happened to know what I know because my friend canceled a trip to NY because he couldn’t afford the time to do the quarantine. CA was placed on NY’s bad list literally the day before his flight. Random…
The whole country won’t need to be quarantined, most people have no symptoms so unless they get tested there is no way to know. In my opinion, if there ever was a time to shut down the country it has long passed and doing so in the US, especially with a new and controversially elected president, could lead to a real disaster.
I know you’re not a fan of Sweden’s approach, but something like that would be an easier sell and would be much better than the current situation in the US. Maybe that would be a reasonable option.
This is true! I’ve gone back and done some reading about the Spanish Flu pandemic and what our response to it was. The outbreak was much worse, deadlier, and yet we still managed to control it after a while and it ended. What was the difference? People taking personal responsibility for themselves and encouraging others to do the same.
The first one is cases and the second is deaths. We also just had a 4 week shutdown of many businesses including gyms and bars, eating in restaurants was forbidden too. Seems to have no effect on the “cases” but fortunately few people are dying.
Something extremely bogus is going on. Was tested for covid four times today. Two tests came back negative, two came back positive. Same machine, same test, same nurse. Rapid antigen test from BD.
User error? Actually I doubt that, but how are you arriving at the conclusion that all existing COVID tests are bullshit by citing a tweet with the results from one type of rapid test?
Your data is incredibly limited because you have low cases (that’s a good thing!). Your trend line is still rising following an increase in cases about a month ago. If your cases continue to rise we would expect deaths to also rise in correlation with a few weeks after initial rise.
I believe this has been true in all countries? Absolutely true in the US.
That’s what they say but it only appear to have been true last winter/spring, there is no major increase in deaths here despite “cases” rising steadily since late summer. Also in today’s news there are some doctors and other educated fools talking about shutting down the province again, everyone was pissed of at Doug Ford (the premier) for shutting certain businesses for the past month but now it’s looking like he’s the good guy because he is opposing more shutdowns. Or at least that’s how the media is trying to make it look. Selling out your future for a virus like this doesn’t seem like a wise plan at all.
But again, with an 86% asymptomatic rate how will they know?
The PCR test gives 30% false negatives, and some Ontario government person is on record (I linked it here yesterday) saying that half the positives are false as well in areas with low infection rates. That sounds good to you?
If the rapid antigen test is actually more effective (aka less ineffective) than the PCR test then they should switch fast, but I don’t hear any such plans.
No it doesn’t sound good. If anything that means the disease is more prevalent than we think. It’s known that testing too early after exposure can lead to false negative results. I was just wondering why you were drawing conclusions about ALL tests based on Musk’s results from one type of test. I guess you were referencing other posts now that you’ve clarified it.
Which would mean the death rate is even lower than we think, right? #15daystoslowthespread has turned into #asmanydaysasneededtoeliminateillness
Seems like an achievable goal.
I think we can achieve whatever we collectively put our minds to! Yes, we can eliminate this disease. It will require a coordinated effort and a big reduction in mixed messaging, along with the realization that the economy and the disease are inextricably linked.
