He’s pretty laughable on this stuff. Wouldn’t get too worked up over it. Asking someone to do something different during a pandemic is probably worse than the Holocaust to him. Mask while I’m buying a drink in a gas station?! The tyranny!!!
I remain shocked that we ever got these people to accept wearing pants in public.
We’re in a pretty big lose-lose situation now. No idea what we should do, no idea what people would do, and a large percentage of the population still not doing basic simple steps like distancing and wearing masks. I’m convinced a lot of people never will. And our President is busy tweeting about Fox News ratings.
Our numbers are unreal. During the first wave 25 K numbers were norm. Second wave 60K. Hitting 140K now? It’s unreal. We’re better at treating but deaths are already creeping back up which is in line with every other wave. Cases up, deaths follow.
He’s just trolling you. He even said he was doing so to see how he could get a rise out of people several posts back. Some reactions are funny, though.
But, yeah, making sure to correct some of his troll posts for the sake of others is required since he says too much dumb shit that some may actually seriously. I’m just saying don’t take it personally.
I’m actually leaning toward the right to not wear pants. If chicks can wear hotpants all the way uo to their crotches and tight midriff baring singlets, which can’t I strut around in my boxers without a shirt on? It’s 30 degress Celsius here on a normal day right now. Fucking double standards.
Seriously, even if a mask is 50% effective, it still has a significant effect in reducing the R0 when we take the bigger picture into account. A negative R0 would mean things are under control will gradually get better.
People really need to understand that the concept of freedom doesn’t mean you’re ethically absolved from doing your civic duty.
You know why I have respect for Americans in my country? Because the locals are so used to the government telling them what to do they don’t even know how to react in situations when shit happens other than wait for the authorities to arrive.
For example, every time I see minor a fight break out, people just look and don’t do shit. It’s the US expats that step in and try break it up.
This is the kind of self governance I’m talking about.
People who don’t get this do not understand, nor do they appreciate the true concept of freedom.
It’s just a catchphrase to them, or something to play the victim card with whenever someone tells them, “No”.
I’ve trolled some people in the steroid forum before in the past cos I was bored at work. Never went too far though. But some dumb fuck with estrogen issues gave me a death threat lol. Was seriously lol-ing non-stop. The thought of a 150lb internet warrior boarding a plane and flying for 3 days across continents just to find me and choke me to death was simply too funny.
Yeah, I know this but he doesn’t. We’ve been around the moon and back on this so sometimes I just find it easier to run with his incorrect numbers than try to explain.
That’s good on you man. It sucks but you did the right thing and some people are probably still alive because of that.
The truth of the matter is that as H Factor noted, we’re already in a lose-lose situation. Just letting it run its course is not an option, but we’ve lost the ability to choose a number of things in the last 8 months.
I believe that stringent measures for assisted living homes are a good thing and if not already implemented are LONG past due as you have been saying for a while. I think that a coordinated mask mandate is helpful - which will be dicey since the president does not have that power, although they could coordinate with states and give some damn direction.
That would have to have some teeth to be effective though.
I’ve had ideas in the past, but right now I am frankly not sure any more. Then again, that’s why I’m a research guy and not a policy expert.
I really, really wish we could pin that to the top of every thread or something. Fucking Amen!
Thanks. I’m gonna add that people who can’t grasp the concept of freedom DO NOT DESERVE TO HAVE IT.
I have never lamented about my government regarding this. It’s only doing it because the locals allow it to. It’s like asking why you left the cat litter box uncovered and the dog ate all the shit and now you have to wipe cat shit from your face after the fucker licks you.
EDIT:
Why would you leave a cat litter box uncovered if you have a dog in the first place? The dog’s mostly likely going to eat the shit. Then it’s going to lick you. All this was foreseeable but you didn’t want to spend $30 more on that covered litter box.
Then you scold the dog, which was acting according to instinct. Or you blame the cat for not burying it’s shit deep enough, which makes even less sense. It’s your own fucking fault for choosing the cheapest option without any consideration that it would eventually lead back to YOU.
And now you eat shit.
(stole this last bit from No One Writes to the Colonel by García Márquez)
I only rant about locals since they whine about this all the time. To me, you have no fucking right to demand something unless you actively practice it yourself even if it means making some personal sacrifices. Fucking entitled snowflakes.
Yeah pretty much. If they could at least convince actual high risk groups to take the necessary measures that would make a difference, but shutting down the country for a month or more like Biden’s buddy is saying could lead to much worse outcomes than the virus is capable of. Not only in economic terms, just replace Antifa and BLM with a bunch of right wing militias and such, it could get ugly.
Agreed on this. Aside from incompetent management from the federal government (and direct interference regarding medical supplies in blue states) certain aspects valued within traditional American culture would’ve made it very hard to suppress the spread
Granted, I don’t think things would have gotten quite this bad had it not been for Donald Trump politicising the virus as a way to further the deep divide already present within the American populace thus firing up his base and empowering them to NOT wear masks.
As @dt79 has stated, the “muh freedoms” argument parroted by many shouldn’t override ethics/civic duties required to preserve public health and well-being. Many seem to be incapable of understanding this.
The WHO is also worthy of blame for their contradictory recommendations, as well as opposing travel restrictions. Basically we have a bunch of stupid assholes running things, one is not a whole lot better than the other.
It’s not even about “overriding civic duties”. Performing your civic duties are an ESSENTIAL part of freedom if you want to REMAIN FREE.
Even if mask wearing was just an unspoken rule, the ones whom are abiding by rules get pissed off at the assholes not doing so. What do they do? Go around beating you up? That’s a crime. Publicly shame you? You’re not Japanese.
They get the government to MAKE you do it by law.
It’s such basic common sense I simply cannot understand how people fail to grasp this.
This is how you lose freedom, not gain it.
It’s a self-defeating act in itself. Why would you want to lose something and then have to fight to get it back? That’s fucking thinking ass backwards.
Maybe not as much as you think. These traditional American culture values are actually the (positive) things dt79 is ranting about the locals not doing. Those have been instilled in us for generations, but are more and more under attack.
This modern bullshit is sad. That’s not what built us.
