Coronavirus - What Happened?

Lowes 2 weeks ago no masks on employees, masks on great majority of customers with 100 per store allowed inside

Today masks on every employee and me, didn’t see another mask in 20 minutes with as many customers in store as desired

N = 1

Fair enough. I don’t fault your reasons for wearing one. I happen to think they give a false sense of security and think that infected people’s hands provide a far greater risk of passing on the virus and their infected mask is the primary means of transport to their hands.

My analogy is people with a total lack of situational awareness, plus no training, arming themselves for “self defense” reasons.

I’m your huckleberry.

Not particularly. I believe an article a while back talked about blue states testing more often than red ones initially. We probably have all sorts of deaths that aren’t reported especially from the early parts. Some of these states people have better health care coverage and more protections and may be more likely to decide to get tested if showing symptoms. Higher population places in theory should always have bigger total numbers. Keeping it from running rampant in a 12,000 person town like mine’s a bit easier than Chicago?

I think one has to really stretch their tinfoil to see nationwide numbers of cases and deaths and come to the conclusion that it’s not a nationwide problem. Doesn’t seem like Texas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana are having significantly less problems than most other blue states with big numbers. Especially when you consider the outliers that are New York/New Jersey.

Curiously, have you worn a mask out and about in a store? I just find it hard to believe that people really have that tough of a time not touching the mask until they get back to their car. Seemed real easy to me to just slip the thing over my ears, go into the store and forget about it, checkout, take the mask off when i get in my car, rub some purell on the hands and drive home. Maybe i’m missing something though.

That’s my basic routine.

Biggest adjustment for me is constantly reminding myself to not touch my face.

I’m used to jiu jitsu diligence with laundry, so washing my masks after each use is a piece of cake.

I haven’t. We order our groceries online and pick it up outside. I’ve been inside a store less than 6 times in the past two months. Even the butcher has a drive up window.

I haven’t seen a single person at the gym I go to wear a mask. Not even the nurse I had a conversation with about Covid. The gym owner provides wipes and I wipe down the equipment I use and my hands before leaving.

I always wash my hands when I get home and frequently disinfect my truck interior after I go out. I am fortunate in that I have been working from home.

When your ideology makes you look at other people, your fellow citizens, as swine, you’ve already lost. You have allowed the politicians and pundits who profit off your rage and hate to make you dehumanize people who think differently. I don’t think this is healthy for you as an individual or for America in general.

Also, people really are not that different in this country. It’s the pundits who get rich off of ratings who are making people see one another as different when in reality, most of us share a lot of common ground. Two people on Twitter don’t represent millions.

And on the topic of communism, how many of those commie bankers on Wall Street held out their hands for some (well, shit tons) government money after they found out they were not immune to a reckoning? Like I said, we really are not all that different. Commies, capitalists; they both feed at the same trough.

I went to a Homedepot and when I asked for my military discount, the manager said they didn’t do that anymore. That was totally false. This was at a ghetto Homedepot. When I went to a Homedepot where I used to live, in a suburb, as I went to pull out my military ID, the guy said don’t worry about it and gave me the discount. The point being, it’s sometimes an individual store that is being stupid.

Oh yeah? Why don’t you just go give Trump a blowjob while he grabs some unwilling female’s pussy?

I don’t find people dying on ventilators interesting.

You forgot #metoo. Isn’t that the punchline?

I don’t joke about that kind of thing. I believe all victims. It hurt me badly enough just typing “pussy.” Ugh. I had no idea people used words like that until I heard Trump say it. I mean, I’d heard it in rap lyrics but that didn’t bother me, because I understood those gentlemen were just saying it to cope with the fact that they were stuck in the same country in which their ancestors had been enslaved. I mean, “pussy?” Terrible. I would scarcely be more shocked if I learned that straight men sometimes jokingly call one another “fag” as an insult.

I love how after all this time people think that Trump just said the word “pussy” and that’s what everyone’s upset about. Not that he said that his power and status as a famous person made it so that he could do whatever he wants to them, up to and including grabbing their pussies. I HAVE heard that type of talk, from guys in the military, none of whom I’d want anywhere near the presidency. It’s the ultimate proof that there is literally no decency left in that office when, in a thread meant to be about coronavirus, the guy who’s made more childish quips than anybody else in 3.5 thousand replies, literally turns the car around 4 years to defend a president saying arguably the most childish, greasy, creepy thing that a presidential candidate has ever said, Joe Biden included. But as always, enjoy your nice, big strawman.

Who defended him? Such talk sickens me. And the idea that women would accept less-than-gentlemanly behavior from a man just because he’s rich and famous? Disgusting and untrue.
Also, I’m not sure “literally” means what you think it means.

Again - been around plenty of comments like that all my life. Doesn’t mean any of us were fit to be president, and some of us find some semblance of decency at some point in our lives, instead of acting like children until we die. Points for the ‘literally’ quip, though.

The funny thing is, despite being half-joking, people like you always keep the door open to use this as an excuse. Not saying you are one, but only cowards are afraid to admit to their true nature.

I’m pretty sure I am one. I don’t reflexively agree with what The Elect or majority say, and I’m pretty sure not doing so is the most cowardly thing one can do. I might be wrong. Who knows? I’ll wait for The Leaders to tell me what to think, like a brave fellow.

Edit: In case you actually need clarification on my opinion of Trump: I think he’s quite worthless as a President, but far better than the alternative(and probably is one of the better ones ever, which is something like they say about winning gold at a certain type of Olympics).

Pretty sure we had someone (not nick) way up the thread who apologized/called out everyone but Trump and then someone called on it said something along the lines of “well I wasn’t defending him!” Right…just choosing not to point out anything the highest person in power does.

It was just a joke is always a good window so you can say whatever you want and then when someone says yeah that sounds like bullshit they can come back and say “I wasn’t serious!” Can’t believe you thought I meant that. Especially on the internet where you can make all types of “jokes” you wouldn’t make without anonymity.
