Coronavirus - What Happened?

Wow, you literally could not have proved my point better. Props.

I think that a mask is a clear sign of a lack of feeling of security.

Why would one take preventive measures against something they don’t feel will affect them?

Like in December, Me=no mask.

Start hearing about outbreak, don’t wanna die=mask.

Stay safe, man.

Everyone else too, regardless of your political leanings.

I recommend drinking a fifth of liquor over drinking a pint of bleach. I don’t consider that statement a defense of drinking a fifth of liquor.

A little old, and it predates the Democrats new idea to spend $3 trillion more, but a good reminder that we just had the longest economic expansion on record and somehow we were wallowing in record deficits. Then a crisis comes, which will require some massive spending in response, but we’re already eyeballs deep in red ink.

One other thing on the private side - again, we just had a massive economic expansion with tremendpus growth in GDP, and Republicans decided to top it off with an unnecessary tax cut, which gave tons of cash back to businesses. Despite that massive cash infusion, and despite several years of sturdy growth, businesses’ balance sheets were not strong enough to withstand this temporary shutdown due to the pandemic - they desperately needed government assistance. Why? What’d they do with all the tax cut money?

EDIT: sorry, wrong link. Fixed.

But what do Blue states expect to happen if they continue with strict shelter-in-place orders? The virus will somehow magically disappear overnight? When people return outside, of course cases are going to spike! It’s a no-brainer. Florida, which has a higher population, especially of older people, is doing much, much better than how NYS is handling this mess.

Government coercion…

I went to Home Depot the other day. It’s the first store I’ve been to in three weeks and it was a curbside pickup. So, dude brings my cart out and says have a nice day. I put my dumb little cloth mask on like a good soldier and put my stuff in the car.

I realized on the way home I adjusted my mask at least twice plus I took it off in the car. So, really, the mask put me at more risk.

My understanding is that the mask is supposed to stop the wearer from spreading disease not the other way around. That doesn’t even get into the validity of wearing a mask.

Vanilla Ice’s ancestors were slaves?

Vanilla Ice rapped?

Speaking to the feelings of security/insecurity.

Whatever floats your boat.

I thought the point of the mask was to prevent infected people from spreading it and not to protect people from it.

Serious question here. Are you most likely to become infected from an infected person coughing, sneezing, or spitting on you while up in your grill or by touching a contaminated surface and then touching your face? Since the virus doesn’t hover bat-like in the air waiting for someone to walk through a cloud of infected air particles I think it’s far more likely contaminated surfaces are the main source of transmission. I suppose an unhygienic mouth breather might avoid contaminating everything around him by wearing a mask.

If a person can avoid licking public door handles, staying 6 feet away from modern Neanderthals, and washes their hands frequently they’ll likely avoid the virus. None of this likely applies to people in the medical field and such.

Aside from the hyperbole, I mostly agree.

But how many people who concealed or open carry are in shoot’em ups?

Remember, we’re talking about Feeling Secure.

Not Being Secure.

So, why so many people walking around with guns, looking like a bunch of insecure douchbags?

Sometimes I can’t resist a little humorous hyperbole. Like I’ve said before, if people want to wear a mask they have every right to do so if it makes them feel good. It gets my hackles up when people equate not wearing a mask to wanting to murder their grandma especially when the infection and death rate where I live is ridiculously low.

As far as concealed carry, I would hope very few ever have to use it. Most have no idea of the legal ramifications. Having once carried one as part of my profession, it’s a habit I still continue and not a single person ever knows I have it. I suppose many people walk around with guns for the same reasons I see people going for walks outside alone while wearing a mask.

Cant blame you for that, especially when Ive actually been around some who personify the hype.

Yeah. I actually had a lady pull a gun on me a couple of years ago because I didn’t want her 130 lb. dog knocking my 3 year old son around. It started as verbal because she didn’t like that I didn’t like her running her dog off leash.

It got laughably serious when she pulled out a .25 to show me how insanely stupid she was.

Kinda like people who wear a mask then pull it down, frothing at the mouth mad to yell at people who aren’t wearing a mask. :joy:

My wife wears one at work because she’s high exposure, and I’m high risk from heart disease.

She’d feel bad if she brought it home and killed me. Unlikely for a number of reasons, and good luck actually proving it, but this is a lot more about taking every precaution than any precaution.

That’s one stupid lady. She shouldn’t have a gun or a dog. I hope you guys stay safe and make it unscathed to the other side of this.

While I’m relatively young and healthy I choose to live by a ā€œmottoā€ someone I admire frequently says ā€œI refuse to live in my fearsā€. That’s not good advice for everyone.

There are some legitimate concerns.

Guarantee this though: I felt a hell of a lot better about my chances standing in front of lady with gun than I do about this.

Last check up the doc said I was ā€œin great shape, and would probably just shake it offā€.

Probably. In a dichotomy such as this, I don’t like ā€œprobablyā€.

Can’t blame you for that and I’d probably do the same if i were in your shoes.

I don’t think anyone believes that.

Based on what? Florida doesn’t have near the situation that New York does. It’s likely that New York City had it before Florida and before any type of precautions could take place. Couple that with it being much larger than any city in Florida and the comparison seems weak.

To me that’s like saying Idaho is handling this amazingly, look at how few cases they have!
