Where you work should give you a clue. Ask yourself if you were born in a bad part of St. Louis how you think your life would have ended up. Keeping in mind that you were born there for the same reasons as others are born there. Sure, you might have been one of those whose is able to overcome that experience and succeed in life but what would the odds be?
But not everyone has foolish spending priorities; they do have spending priorities however.
And another factor is where people live. How much control do people have over cost of living? I knew people from the South back in Basic who thought they won the lottery by getting a âjobâ with the Army.
I was raised by a single mother in a trailer park. Legitimately poor.
Im willing to grant some leeway here but I also see how way too many people in the city simply make no effort to better their situation when there are plenty of avenues out and plenty of people willing to help. Iâve broken my back trying to help. It usually is an exercise in futility.
Hiring preferences. Scholastic preferences. Military. Trades. EtcâŠ
Edit: what about abjectly impoverished whites ? They never get mentioned.
Because theyâve been conditioned to think a certain way. I know what you are saying because Iâve tried as well. But I know it canât be genetic so it has to be something else.
Thatâs because there isnât as much money to be made off their poverty. Look at how much money gets pumped into the inner cities like Chicago. And since they are not well educated and well-suited to be taken advantage of, when elections come around they fall for the idea that itâs other poor people, who happen to look differently than they, who are to blame. You hear about guns, God, and Mexicans but not education. Immigrants come here and prioritize education but poor white Americans care more about eating disgusting food and praying in school. But I wouldnât say itâs their fault they think that way.
Ha⊠Americans definitely need a rude awakening. Take away our super sized slop, our smart phones and low brow entertainment and we become rabid wolves ready for a war.
I meant more the fact of something other than a bit of copay or something. Medicine etc, long term without a job due to sickness, etc.
We âmeasureâ a strong economy often by unemployment. But in these times a lot of people arenât making a lot of money still. Those with wealth already are the ones who can exponentially grow that wealth. Those who donât have that are often teetering on the edge.
Some of its ignorance no doubt and people who arenât that intelligent. We also have an economy where a lot of businesses are designed to take advantage of the people who donât know any better. But if youâve been making 11 dollars an hour during this âstrongâ economy itâs pretty unlikely youâve got a bunch stocked away. Wage growth over the last 30 or so years has been pretty paltry. Compare that to ceo wage growth and check out income inequality gaps. I mean itâs great to talk about them buying crap they donât need and all but even buying only the absolute necessities itâs going to take a long time if youâre not making much to have enough saved to be comfortable should the shit hit the fan. Also Iâm sure everyone on here has bought plenty of stuff they donât need. Itâs not just poor people. None of us need a biotest supplement or even a gym membership. We want those things.
That âstrongâ economy is much stronger for those at the top. Pretty much always. But they always need tax cuts because one of these days that wealth will trickle down so hard it will drown us.

Just an FYI from 1978 CEO growth was close to 1,000 percent and the average worker growth was 12 (from a google search and study). The share of national income went from 10-20% for the top 1% from 1980-2016. The share for the bottom 50% went from 20%-13%.
While itâs great to jump on the âhey these poor people just need to spend wiserâ we clearly have a system where âstrong economyâ doesnât mean the same for average Joe and Jane.
Iâd say this is very much the biggest part. Wages have stayed flat but inflation and housing costs have grown. Knowing my past posts everyone here knows Iâm very strong on the personal responsibility theme, but itâs hard to do on that kind of pay in many places.
Weâre some of the most emotionally and mentally fragile people on Earth. I try to tell kids that once they get into the real world they will face competition and no one will care about their feelings. But schools are selling them a bunch of lies in order to not have to deal with narcissistic and shitty parents who insist their kids are special.
Yeah Iâm not trying to take personal responsibility away by any means. It just seems like the first answer for some is âwell these poor people shouldnât have a cell phone.â Maybe thatâs right but even with perfect financial advice if youâre barely making over minimum wage it will be decades until youâre in a spot where you donât have to worry.
My ex in-lawâ mortgage was less than 200 dollars a month. They bought their house in the 70s and were working low paying jobs at the time. I remember writing the mortgage check for a rental property my father bought in the 70s and it was less than 250 a month. My first house had mortgage payments that were around 1,000 a month and people were telling me that was low.
Then you have jobs that wonât hire you without a cell phone and/or a car.
Well and weâre all on here doing something none of us need to do. Weâre all guiltily of the very things weâre saying those people donât need to do.
@zecarlo My Lord! (joke haha) You are actually talking truth, expressing your real opinions. And I agree! Iâm gonna go take my temperature right nowâŠ
This is an extremely prevalent and serious problem these days.
Well we just got our first confirmed case in my county. It was nice knowing you all. Time to update the will!
The organ- and cell-specific expression of this gene suggests that it may play a role in the regulation of cardiovascular and renal function, as well as fertility. In addition, the encoded protein is a functional receptor for the spike glycoprotein of the human coronavirus HCoV-NL63 and the human severe acute respiratory syndrome coronaviruses, SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19 virus).
IâŠnever mind.
Nope nope nope
Maybe the US government has nothing to do with it, I obviously canât say one way or another, but there are very few viruses that arenât STDs that cause infertility. There are also people who have been pushing for a reduction in the worldâs population for some time, is this a coincidence?
I donât claim to know anything, but there is a peer-reviewed study backing up Chinaâs allegations so anything is possible at this point. I just want this to end soon.
Drat. Now Iâm not sure if the USA should wait for the biological warfare to do itâs thing over time, or just nuke the damn Chinamen and just get it over with so we can all go back to the gym.
