Coronavirus - What Happened?

Neither can I. But why would you assume this is the case? I mean I can’t say it isn’t a plot by aliens but I’m not putting serious thought into that.

Why in the hell is or was there a Pandemic Response Team? Damn. Time for this thing to implode.

Aren’t you an educator ? What’s the deal ? Why is this happening ?

We had one

Mine’s $1080. Large 3 bedroom, 2 bath, patio, stained glass windows, unique layout. Not bad i suppose

You should be happy. Le Grand Orange has handled this poorly, and imo it will have an effect on the election.

Why would I be happy he has handled it poorly? I’m not too concerned about a November election if we have a global economic meltdown. I’d be much happier if he hadn’t.

But of course he handled it poorly. He doesn’t have an idea of how his administration runs. He has tweeting to do and isn’t going to be bothered with much reading or listening. Did you expect something different?

That dipshit didn’t say anything about biological warfare. He said that the virus might not have originated in China.

This was a reference to the Spanish Flu, in which one of the origins was theorized to be a US military base in Kansas, which would make calling it the “Spanish” flu wrong.

I think you’re being to quick to dismiss here. Haven’t you heard of the DEEP STATE?!

I assume nothing, I am just entertaining the possibility, in the same way that it’s possible that the virus originated at the disease research lab in China. Its just that the fact that it mostly kills old people and also might cause infertility makes it extra suspicious.

My mistake, I mixed it up with what I read somewhere else. Iran, China, and Russia are essentially one entity nowadays. Not saying that I find either of these credible, but everyone is pointing fingers.

Economically, I think this is gonna be a bloodbath. Italy was already at zero growth, as was Germany, France and the U.K. were both on weak growth. China may be getting back to work, but there’s a possibility of another outbreak this winter.

When the quarterly figures for this come out, I suspect the markets will go ballistic.

The only people as nuts/crazier than Iranian “officials” are the Egyptians.

Right @Jewbacca?

You’re putting out multiple conspiracy theories throughout the thread. Everything is suspicious if you want it to be. I mean Alex Jones is a millionaire simply by saying everything that happens is a conspiracy.

Perhaps Sandy Hook, 9/11, Aurora were all inside jobs and I just have my head in the sand. You’re not going to have a shortage of tin foil theories with something like this. The most convoluted answer is rarely correct.

You mean a virus mostly kills old people or people who may be already sick? Highly suspicious!

I’m with @H_factor on this. Conspiracy theories very seldom turn out to be true, and I think that’s for a handful of reasons.

First of all, if it becomes widespread and everyone is talking about it on the internet, then whoever was supposed to keep it a secret did a very poor job. Things we aren’t supposed to know usually stay that way or become known long after whoever is involved is gone for good. I can’t see how the government wouldn’t be able to keep a secret if that’s that critical.

Second of all, most of the time we observe that the simplest explanation usually turns out to be the correct one. Is it simpler to believe a disease spread through natural causes (bad hygiene, fancy eating habits
) or that it was, voluntarily or not, spread through a lab experiment?

I mean, it’s not like the latter isn’t entirely possible, but haven’t we had pandemics (and way worse ones) throughout all human history, when labs weren’t even around?

I would also conjecture that it’s not that easy to create a virus that “targets elderly people, messes up fertility, spreads easily” and so on. I don’t really think it works like creating a Sim in the video game, where you just choose the traits you want.

Personally, and it’s just my opinion and needn’t be anyone else’s, I have rolled my eyes every time I heard someone mention the “the virus was created in a lab and spread maliciously and all of this is just [insert name here]'s plan to weaken us all and take over the world!” over the last month.

Not that alone, but combined with infertility (if true, which I hope not) then it is unusual. Few non-ST viruses cause infertility.

But I wasn’t trying to turn this into a wacko conspiracy thread, it was just a knee-jerk reaction from the stuff I read combined with the fact that it might cause infertility. The vast majority of online conspiracy stuff is pure nonsense, but they were also the first ones talking about Epstein and his connections to Trump so they are right some of the time.

The fact is that there won’t be an explanation. Nobody can prove anything one way or another, unless documents from the lab where this would have been created are released to the public and that isn’t going to happen.

Not saying it’s easy but that is the kind of stuff they are trying to do with genetic research and such.

You know what, I am wrong to even hint at accusing anyone of anything because there is no proof from anywhere and just accusations. I will change that post. I’m just shocked at the possibility that this could cause infertility and hormonal issues, that is not good at all.

This is out of my area of expertise, but I think that genetic research has to do with working on genes which aren’t quite the same thing as a virus. It might be easier to work on modifying a DNA/RNA filament than to engineer a virus (which to this day we still have some doubts as to what they actually are).

But I’m not 100% sure about what I said.

I don’t think you need to change anything. In fact, you expressed worry about a topic that, should it turn out to be true, is indeed something to worry about.

I would just invite people in general to not jump to conclusions because all it does is it feeds anxiety and panic which, regardless of how bad the situation may or may not actually be, can only make matters worse.

For now I am.

Parents are weak is the short answer.

Schools are now emphasizing the social and emotional aspect of education over actual education. It’s more about how kids feel than what they learn. Because parents these days think the world should accommodate their precious children who they failed to teach basic manners to. They have no sense of boundaries because they talk to their parents as though they were friends or peers. I actually had a student tell me that I had to earn his respect. How does a child get that notion in his head? He is so important and special that other people have to earn his respect before he will respect them? It’s because parents don’t tell their kids what to do anymore without explaining to them why for an hour. God forbid the parent is an actual authority figure. So the kids have a sense of entitlement and power that makes them think they can argue with an adult as though they were arguing with someone their own age. The way some of these kids talk to teachers is crazy. It’s not even the fact that they are talking to adults or teachers but that they would even talk to another person like that. You want to ask them, “who the fuck do you think you are? You’re just a child who not that long ago couldn’t even wipe his own ass.” But that’s the thing; they expect the world to treat them a certain way but haven’t been taught that they need to also think about how they treat others. It’s all about their feelings.

Getting back to that kid who said I needed to earn his respect. I told him whether or not he respected me was irrelevant. I can live without his respect but he is still going to do as he is told. And then I saw in his face that his little world crumbled. They can’t understand the idea that some people can feel nothing about certain things. They can’t accept the idea that someone doesn’t give them the power to influence how they feel. In their minds they think, “how can this person not care what I think about him? I’m special.” They assume that others are like them and have triggers. It’s like being a cop and having some criminal hurl insults at you. It doesn’t have an effect one way or another, if you’re a smart cop. How can some rapist, thief or drug dealer hurt your feelings? How could you give someone like that, that sort of power over how you see yourself? But that’s why kids and Americans in general are weak. They think their feelings about everything have some sort of inherent value that the world should recognize and care about, and they have feelings about everything. So because of this, the worst thing you can tell a kid is the truth, even if it would help him have a better life than he will otherwise. Their parents have lied to them their whole lives and are now in denial about the fact their kids are assholes.

Then you have those kids who are not just good kids but good people and when you see their families it’s obvious why. Thank god there are still some parents who accept the real responsibility of parenting. You would hear the phrase “squared away” all the time in the military and that’s what they are. They are also the happiest kids. I had one student who was a Muslim from Africa. She was always smiling and she worked her ass off in school. One time a bunch of my students complained that a test was too long but this girl managed to finish well before class was over. One student said the only reason the girl from Africa finished so quickly was because she had a “big brain.” This was the only time I ever saw her get angry as she responded, “it’s not about having a big brain it’s about working hard.” So while American kids are worrying about feelings, this girl can see the opportunities she has here and look back at where she came from and know that back home, feelings didn’t mean much when you are worrying about survival. I really think Americans live off of unhappiness. Their own and that of others.

I should delete this post because it’s way too long.
