Coronavirus - What Happened?

Watching my kids running around touching everything and shoving half of it in their mouths… any hygiene practices are next to futile for us lol “Social Distancing” with a couple of under 5s is going to be worse than any virus too… Their age bracket is also very resilient against it so they can happily go about their business and we get the result of it… little pricks.

I could be wrong, but I don’t believe she understands the way things work. Your asthma could make it more dangerous for YOU-shouldn’t have anything to do with the likelihood of her catching it from you.

Interestingly, I think some anti-asthma drugs are being rolled out to combat the virus in Japan and SK. Who knows? You may have a drug cocktail ready to go.

Would be hard to be mad at someone else peddling conspiracy theories when we have people like Hannitty and Falwell sending them out. But we’re talking about a “Christian” who wouldn’t mind a lil nuking or murdering people from the top of a wall so who knows.

Very much agreed

I’ll take whatever my health insurance can afford me lol

I feel bad for the people who are in this situation. We have a lot of people who don’t have health insurance and many who likely have pretty limited options even if they have it. In America the vast majority of us are one health problem away from potential financial ruin.

I’m not sure how limited my health insurance is, but I can guarantee it isn’t the best.

Still had to pay like 200$ for a cast when I hurt my ankle some months ago. Idk if it’s because I went to a private practice, but I can only imagine how much the full price was gonna be.

@samul - Is the mail, couriers, and online shopping still running in Italy?

I was talking to one of my neighbors who is a security consultant, he said that here in North America the shutdown is expected to last another month at the minimum, and also that the official estimates are that 30-50% of the population will catch the virus. It’s expected that the virus will be at least as widespread here as it currently is in Europe. I need to try to get some masks from work!

I went to buy some extra groceries this morning because I’m out of a lot of stuff like bread, flour, cheese, etc., one store was mostly well stocked but no toilet paper or chicken as well as various other items. The other store I went to (Farm Boy) is a higher end store that mostly sells fruits and vegetables and fancy nonsense, I wanted some garlic and what the other store had wasn’t looking too good. The store was packed, but the shelves were almost bare, no garlic in sight and just a little bit of this and that left.

The panic shopping is a bigger problem than any risk of food shortage at this point. If you were broke last week and just got paid last night you might have a hard time buying anything to eat.

Yes, all of those services are still running. In fact, most services that require little to no human contact are fully functioning.

I HATE this. It’s ass-backwards. People don’t realize that they are breaking the world little by little by doing this. It’s not the virus. It’s the disproportionate response we’re having to it that’s going to dig a grave for us.

I’m starting to be severely worried for the consequences on economy and how we might get thrown back in time as far as development as a species. I’m still not worried about the virus, but about humans? Yes. I don’t want to wake up one day to find that the world is now 15 years back in time and we need to build our systems back up.

This is going to sound dickish… But, if the economy is/was doing good for so long, how are people still living on the edge of financial ruin?

Most folks can’t afford a $400 out of pocket expense. How is that possible in such a strong economy? Is it human nature, and no matter what people will overextend financially?

Trump, I’d assume.

If you give me a million dollars, and I spend it all on dumb shit and end up with nothing to show for it, that doesn’t mean a million dollars isn’t a lot of money.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, the economy is going to be totally fucked. A lot of people can’t work and some businesses are going to be closed, but rent and mortgages still need to be paid. People are going to lose their homes and businesses, and banks are going to take a big hit too. Then what? Another bailout like back in 2009 and increased taxes? It’s not looking good.

Some people are going to profit from this. Certain food businesses, grocery stores, and of course toilet paper companies. And don’t forget the pharmaceutical industry.

Also did you see this (screenshot was posted above)? Hopefully it’s not true, but if it is then there are more major problems ahead:

How is a strong economy measured? More people are employed (at Walmart, McDonald’s)? Those who own stocks are making more money? Those who sell shit no one needs are selling more shit no one needs?

That might have some relevance if all of those people started out with being GIVEN a million dollars.

Poor choices. It’s politically incorrect to say as much but at some point personal choices have to be factored in. Most people are undisciplined impulsive slobs

Edit: #metoo

Most people have little to no control over their circumstances.

I would wait until a reputable source confirms this. Knowing what we know about the virus’ mechanisms of action on the organism (and, contrary to what some people believe, it’s not true that we know very little about it, as its family of viruses is everything but novel to humans), this remotely sounds like sci-fi to me

Yeah, someone not affiliated with China or Russia. It could just be propaganda to make people over here panic more, but you never know. I wasn’t too worried about catching the virus until now.

Really ? I feel differently

Some get dealt a bad hand. Disease, mental problems, disability, sick relatives, etc. Those people will always struggle more than others.

Most of the people I know who are on that edge or at least vocal about their struggles seem to prioritize spending that’s not going to build more wealth in the future. How many “struggling” young people have a trade school or community college tuition’s worth of tattoos? The latest smartphone? $200 shoes? An active nightlife at bars and restaurants?

I know more than a few who fit that bill.

I don’t know as many who struggle when they do the simple things needed to succeed. Learn a trade, get a useful degree, take the difficult job that pays well and spend your money wisely.

Not really. You can have foolish spending priorities no matter how much you have or earn.
