I found this on my Facebook feed. For the record, I don’t believe that the person who wrote it is a lawyer. Maybe a lawyerologist of doctorizing or something, but no one that actually passed a barr exam in any state. Or State.

“Okay, so I have worked with a lot of medical doctors over the years, representing them, and working in businesses that employed them. Moreover, for 27 years, I have been a lawyer, and most of that time has been spent as an environmental lawyer representing Fortune 500 environmental and chemical companies. So I understand how to read a science journal and a medical journal. And, I have researched the matter. And I have a fundamentally different view than many people.

I want to apply some basic fundamentals to wearing a NON surgical mask, which is what we have all been advised to wear, while leaving the surgical masks for healthcare workers. One, they do not seal very well around the face. Nor are they typically very comfortable. Rather more importantly, people have no freaking idea how to put them on or keep them on in a functional way. The NON surgical masks do not seal to keep germs in or out. The mesh is not of the right size to keep microbes in or out. And yet further, most people do not breathe well in them because they don’t know what they are doing and because the mask itself is not meant to be worn very long periods of time, so the person ends up mouth breathing - and/or talking - which creates moisture, and then you have a wet petri dish capturing all of your germs and anybody else’s germs… Which nice, damp, moist petri dish is also now sitting at the threshold that all of your oxygen has to pass over before it enters your sinuses and your respiratory tract.

Put simply, you’re not doing yourself or your neighbors any favors - and quite possibly, you’re actually undercutting the alleged “health” goal - by wearing a petri dish on your face.

Not to mention the fact that nobody knows how to wear these things because we do not routinely wear them, so everybody is touching their face ten times more than they normally would (unless they were being stung by a bee on their face… or they were a newborn trying to figure out where their nose was). Which - applying more logic - now means that you are touching your hand to your petri dish a lot… followed by touching everything in the grocery store … that everybody else just touched with their nasty latex gloves after touching the wet petri dish on their face a gazillion times today.

I have studies at my house - but I am on my cell phone right now - that speak to the fact that masks that are NOT hospital grade are doing more harm than good.

So now that we’ve reviewed some of the science behind the notion of mask-wearing, let me speak to the legal end of it.

I would like to talk to you about civil liberties for a moment.

The government is taking away your rights faster than you can notice. It is not constitutional to enslave 95% of Americans when they have done nothing wrong and when they are not carriers. It is not constitutional to propose having this be the new normal for 18 months until a mandatory vaccine, chipping, and tracking is instituted. It is not f****** constitutional to take away people’s right to assemble for any reason, even when there is a time of crisis, when the ends are NOT narrowly tailored to achieve a compelling State interest. And that latter point - of a compelling State interest - is getting much harder to prove now that The Math is showing CV to be less fatal than a normal flu season. It’s less fatal than letting my almost 16 year old drive on the street. Even in the worst-hit province in China, it is 118 times more risky and fatal SIMPLY TO BE ALIVE than to be confronted with this virus.

Neutrality always helps the oppressed, never the oppressor. You do no one any favors when you bow down to unconstitutional or illegal orders. You do no one any favors when you allow their judgment to override yours. You do no one any favors when you take what the talking heads CLAIM is medical science - without researching it for yourself and applying common logic to it.

Your job - should you choose to accept it right now - is NOT to be telling people to drink the Kool-Aid that other people are selling. Your job - if you want to remain in a free society - is to put your right arm down and not say “Heil Hitler” the next time some talking head says you should. And that includes every last infringement they throw down… including something as “minor” as having to wear a mask in public.

So I know this was rather hard-hitting. But I also find it to be incredibly important, as somebody who works in countries where genocide happens and human rights atrocities happen, because this - THIS - is how it starts. By people agreeing to go along… to get along.

I am not saying to go lick the shopping cart. But for God’s sakes do not encourage those in power - who are already on a tear - to continue to gut our rights…unless that is the end that you are hoping for. “

How am I supposed to compare myself to others and become better than them because of what I do if I can’t do it?

Ive resorted to judging people based on whether they wear a mask in their car or not.

I had a fairly low opinion of the general population prior to all of this. But now, it’s applying to even more people. The amount of people hell-bent on judging and snitching on others combined with others totally unable to think critically how their actions could/will affect the community both health-wise and policy-wise is disgusting.

I’m glad I only have burner accounts on social media and don’t use it, because I’m sure I’d only have 1 or 2 friends left I respect if I read that shit daily. More face-to-face communication leads to a lot more civility and moderation in ideologies.

Harris County tried to mandate masks starting yesterday with $1000 fines. The police union refused to enforce it and yesterday the governor said it was an unlawful order. I live in a town on the edge of Houston that spans 3 counties. No idea where the boundaries are from one county to the next. Would have been interesting trying to see them enforce it around here. For what it’s worth, I wear a surgical mask most of the time I’m out. Currently I’m running a 107 fever and am achy as hell. Had the covid screening yesterday. They shove that swab so far up your nose that they actually touch your thoughts. It’s unpleasant.

Edit: 101.7 fever.

Hopefully you have holed up and only gone out for the test since symptoms started. I saw a video of the swab up the nose, they go wrist deep up there haha. Vibes. 107 fever sounds horrendous.

Meant 101.7 fever, not 107. Yeah, I’ve only gone out to test. Had to send my oldest son to get some groceries today as the earliest delivery date available is Thursday. The boy will not make it on his own.

I don’t get everyone’s fascination with whether or not someone is symptomatic. Main feature of this virus is ability to be very contagious while asymptomatic. Up to 2 weeks before displaying symptoms in many, some never displaying symptoms at all.

So continue to stay in your house if you’re fearful. Continue to quarantine, shelter-in-place, hunker down and wear your masks. I’ve gone to hang out with friends for quite some time now and still, to this day, have no problems and neither do they. If you want to continue to live in fear, do that. But don’t expect other adults, capable of making their own decisions, to fear something as silly as this.
