Corn vs Corn Syrup

Is corn on the cobb GOOD while high frutose corn syrup BAD?

Please explain…

Whole grain wheat: Good
Bleached white flour: bad

Grapes:Good
Grape Jelly: Bad

High fructose corn syrup is a nasty substance.

Heavily processed foods tend to be bad for you.

Off topic, but if grape juice is all/mostly dextrose, wouldn’t it have a deleterious effect on body composition if used any time except after a workout?

Thats funny because I have a juicer and I juse apples, celery, carrots, sometimes grapes, strawberries, and pineapples around 4-5 times a week.
Never noticed any fat gain from it.
I think if you do it early in the morning with your breakfast and post/pre workout, you’re good to go.

To quote somebody greater than I (Dan John? Berardi?), and I paraphrase: “I challenge anyone to get fat on fruit and vegetables”.

Great quote. One of the best I’ve ever heard on here.

Fruit juice isn’t fruit… to quote someone greater than I, “Drink only non calorie containing beverages”. Grape juice is usually recommened to mix with creatine to spike insulin for better delivery… so post-workout only.

Also for OP, corn syrup is concentrated fructose. Fructose is metabolized differently than other sugars, and is digested by the liver. Excess fructose consumption (presumable in soda, candy, etc.) is possibly linked to obesity and metabolic syndrome. The high concentration of fructose in corn syrup can also overload the liver and can cause insulin resistance and lipogenesis in that organ.

Fructose is the main sugar in fruits but it is nowhere near as concentrated as corn syrup and comes with a lot of fiber and micronutrients. Fruit juice is more concetrated, with less fiber, and you can see where that’s going…

So like some other poster said:
fibrous carbohydrates: good
concentrated carbohydrate products: bad

This is so true.
EVERY single person that I’ve seen, who is obese, lives off of junk food, diet and regular sodas, and fast food.
Their diet is saturated in toxic, processed foods.
I have never seen one obese person eat fruit and vegetables daily, nor any other healthy food(like fish,vegetables,etc.).

The fact still remains that America got fatter as fast food chains and chemical filled processed food companies got larger.

People have always drank fruit juice freshly made(not a bunch of refined sugar added) and ate fresh produce daily.
America never got obese off of that.
There are more factors than just calories in vs calories out.

An average cob of cornweighs about77gms(of edible kernals) has about 19gms of carbs,2.5 gms of dietary fibre,2;5 gms protein and only about 2 grams of sugars.Corn syrup is 55%fructose and 45%glucose.Eat 77gms of corn syrup and its just 77 gms of sugar…not good!

ice = good
ice cream = bad
somebody explain?

Fiber slows down digestion another word for takes longer for the sugars to enter the blood stream(lower GI).

Another point is that HFCS, is enzymatically converted. to increase ratio of Fructose:sucrose.

Good point!

I think it was JB who wrote about the bad effects of fruit juices and I’ve seen other articles about how bad they really are for kids.

Even the “100% fruit juice” ones.

cute
