Hey I am curious to why type IIb muscle fibers are converted into type IIa fibers with resistance training. I understand that type IIb are more capable of producing strength/power yet the body transforms them into type IIa. What are the physiological/cellular explanation? What is the advantage of the type IIa that elicits this response? Thanks
hmmm…i thought i read somewhere wasn’t this impossible…isn’t like the best one can do is get the fiber distribution you were born with already and make them have “characteristics” of other type II fibers. idk, heard it was like some type of urban legendish thing
No there is plenty research proving the transformation of Type IIb → Tybe IIa (with resistance training) and Type IIa → Type IIb (detraining). However there is no research proving a conversion of Type I <–> Type II fibers.
It’s to deal with the volume. Also most bodybuilders use higher reps (8+) and go to failure or near failure, which is one of the quickest ways to lose IIBs.
If your body can cope with stress via either proficiency (increased limit strength/power) or efficiency (just what it sounds like) it will choose efficiency.
