When you have the kids that are doing sets of 5 and just limp dropping it every time its kind of annoying to be honest, and i personally view it as slightly lazy.
There is ‘letting it drop,’ and then there is…‘dropping it limp fish.’

There is no eccentric part to a deadlift. It’s not required of the lift. Therefor, you just drop it. That is if you’re doing a powerlift style deadlift
Federations like USAPL and NASA (among others) do not allow lifters to drop the bar on the platform or the lift is disqualified. It has to be a “controlled drop” where both hands are on the bar and keep it under control when it hits the floor.
OP is lifting in his gym though, not on a platform in any particular federation.

I just wanted to add onto this so I don’t seem adversarial, which wasn’t my intention.
You are right about federation rules and the bar. There are others that do not have that rule. If you were to attend Louie Simmons Pro Am meet, different rules apply, such as your head can come off the bench while benching or they don’t squat as low. My overall take home here is that the deadlift doesn’t really change, only the federations and their rules. Whether one drops or lowers the bar, they have completed a deadlift. I do understand what you’re getting at though and agree.
Fortunately none of this applies to OP since he’s only lifting at a commercial gym.

Could anyone find videos of people dropping it “limp fish”?
I would like to see whether I’m doing that myself.
