I started a workout injury focused journal 4 months ago,the most recent journal is strange as in I haven’t changed my routine, exercises or intensity but somedays I get symptoms even on workout that I deemed less intense,I thought it would be the more intense workout that causes me pain. But there will be days where the same less intense workout not causing symptoms…it’s quite confusing and weird
I have also been able to stick to my workout plan(20% less intense) for 2 month straight.Quite happy about this…
1.Nicotine gum-Gave this up because I tend to perform very badly at work after the alertness and focus it provides is gone. And it seems not really healthy even though I am consuming 2-3 pieces a day.It works really well regarding countering the pain as it probably numb the pain receptor
2.Ammeltz-Currently I am sticking to this method, applying ammeltz oilment three times a days or when necessary, not as good as nicotine gum but we will see if it works in longer term
3.Ice my back after working out-It did helps when I first starting using it,but the effect is gone after a week or so
4.Back brace-This doesn’t work for me at all,but two years ago when I started having back pain,I wore it for four hours everyday and learnt to keep my back straight.I was pain free.
I guess the most important factor for me now is lifting lighter and find a comfortable weight/intensity.I do feel pain/numb but it really is a lot bearable as compare to lifting very heavy and seriously
this might help people:
i had bad sciatica for 1 year, ALL gone now. here is what you need to do (no joking)
read this book
tldr; a) the vast majority of back/scatic pain is related due to emotional repressed distress/anger/rage
and is a diversion tactic used by your brain to divert your attention from the emotional pain. the physical pain is real and due to mild ischemia but the root cause is emotional
b) all medical imaging is useless and does not reveal the true cause of the pain (even so called deformations like herniations etc), very few exceptions do exists, like tumors
c) all surgeries and conservative treatments are placebos and do not provide long term relief
d) you need to 2 things, 1 is deal with underlying root cause and 2 start the most intense workouts immediately to break the mind-body pain cycle
I did all of this. I am 100% pain free, after having dark thoughts about the future of my back/pain (just go on some back pain forums) i could probably write half a book about my progress. I can give some good advice but I do not care about your opinions about this topic especially if they question the effectiveness of this approach
I have had sciatica for I think this is the third year already.Since 2020 October.I have been learning how to deal with it,first after my MRI the orthopedic said I have got herniated disc, and then recent visit to chiro,he suspect it isn’t herniated disc but muscle problem.Anyway,I did stopped lifting and do light exercise for almost 1 year, where I didn’t carry heavy weights.Recently,I started adjusting and changing things which I thought might help with my backache, and now I am finding way to counter the pain but also continue with my lifting exercise routine.I do agree that my back pain do have emotional root though…
Things I did to counter pain
1.Ammeltz(Yoko Yoko)oilment—Currently only sticking to this
2.Nicotine gum(Stopped these)
3.Ice
4.Back brace
sorry…i just got exhausted by people yelling at me ‘i do have 100% a real problem my doc said i have a disc herniation’. my uncle got pissed at me. he is 70. his back on the MRI looks 10x better then mine. he is suffering for years with this now, they want to fuse it.
i had a visible herniation on my back, and still have. and absolutely 0 pain now
Totally fine, and I respect you sharing your opinion. I’m not totally (or even mostly) in agreement, but I appreciate you sharing a totally different perspective!
As a forum, by definition this is a place for discussion. I love seeing back and forth and diverse viewpoints. If we’re going to share our own opinion, we’ve got to open be to others totally disagreeing. We don’t even have to come to the same place at the end for their to be a lot of value (in fact, I think there’s more value if we don’t). There’s no place for people to get mad about another’s’ opinion, so we shouldn’t have to be closed off to dissent.
Anyway, thanks for coming back to the conversation!
I have bumbed up my training intensity from the reduced 80% to close to my peak Intensity, but I have been feeling a little more pain.I have not been visiting my chiro as I have been really busy at work, but to counter the pain I have been applying ammeltz on my left lower back.Really hope the pain can get better and also hope that I would not need to reduced the bumped up intensity
EDIT:I HAVE DECIDED TO GO BACK TO 20% REDUCED INTENSITY.THE DULL ACHE AND PAIN IS NOT WORTH IT FOR THE LITTLE BIT MORE OF INTENSITY
Just a little update, have been back to 100% intensity of my workout before injury. The pain is still there and I have been using nicotine gum as counter pain mentally. If I take nicotine gum I can still 100% focus on work as I read that nicotine has strong anti inflammatory effect
