Continue Cutting or Start Bulking?

Even the men’s health forum would tell you to bulk. If that wouldn’t convince you nothing will.

lol, I’ve “dirty” bulked in the past before but never clean bulked. I apologize if I should just ask in the nutrition forums, but do you have to eat as cleanly on a clean bulk as you do when you are cutting?

No. You just need to eat enough to make signifant strength gains. No one is advocating getting fat here. Your dirty bulk was not the way to go if you got fat. No one is advocating for you to get fat. However, you don’t have to purely eat clean food. If you have a cheat meal, don’t worry about it. Just don’t eat like that everyday. If you start to gain too much fat then don’t eat so many calories the next couple weeks and see how your body responds. If you stop gaining weight then you need to eat more. No one is telling you to try and gain 50 lbs in 3 months. [/quote]

How much cardio (if any) should someone do on a clean bulk? I currently just do HIIT for cardio, would one day a week to minimize fat gain be effective?

As long as it does not take anything away from your strength gains I do not see how cardio could be a problem. It is completely individual though. Some won’t need to do any cardio, some may need to do some to keep fat gains at bay. Find what works for you. This stuff takes time. I am a few years in and still learning what I respond best to.

There is nothing left to cut… Take advantage of your metabolism…and bulk up like a mad man. With your metabolisim…it will be easy to cut when you want to… Bulk the shit out of yourself, and make your friends look tiny!!

who said I have a fast metabolism? I had to diet like a maniac as well as do several days of HIIT per week for months to drop my bodyfat to that.

Put yourself back into a surplus of calories. In my opinion you’re ready to put on some mass. If you’re concerned with spill over fat gain, put yourself into a small surplus and each week, check the scale, check your skin folds and modify your intake from there as you’re comfortable doing.

Like this makes you abnormal? Everyone who gets into near contest shape has to work hard at it. The only ones who don’t are pure genetic freaks like Dexter Jackson who, 10 years ago, didn’t even used to do cardio to get into contest shape (something he does do now).

No offense, but you don’t seem to have the mentality of someone who can make significant GAINS in muscle mass. You are too worried about your low body fat percentage. Sure, you could prove me wrong…but what are the chances of you coming back in two years with so much extra muscle that you shock people?

Most of the people I have seen who start like you restrict their calories so much that their progress is limited. Let’s hope you don’t do the same.

Bulk, but do it strategically. Don’t make the mistake of jumping into a huge calorie surplus from day 1. Your metabolism has been calibrated to a low caloric intake, and a huge jump too early will lead to fat gain.

I would try adding 500 calories/day and see if that leads to strength gains over the next few weeks. If so and you are staying relatively lean, bump it up another 500 calories at that time.

Is it necessary to put on as much bodyfat as that Artem guy during a bulk though to do it right?

At this point, you have GOT to be a troll.

Necessary? Of course not. He put on 100 lbs in 1 year. He went way overboard. It sounded like he just went for the “I’m going to bulk to weight X regardless of how I look”.

People keep telling you the same thing over and over in this thread but it doesn’t seem to be sinking in. Eat a surplus and focus on gaining strength. Modify your diet as you go along. I gained 30 lbs since November. Right now my waist size is at the limit that I planned for. So I’m going to modify and adjust my diet and try and recomp for a month or 2. Once it drops and inch or 2, I’ll continue bulking.

What’s the point of telling you this? I would not have known when I started bulking in November that in June I’d need to do this. You have to adjust your diet as you see fit to meet your goals. You have know idea what you’ll look like after adding 30 lbs.

I recommend putting on way more than that. In the very least you should gain 200 pounds before your bulk is offically done. Artem totally sold himself short and now he’ll never be totally jacked.

Yeah… I mean, 6 HIIT sessions per week… Cutting down for 6 months (seriously, could have done the V-Diet for similar results haha)… And then the other guy agreeing with the HIIT nonsense…
Probably both the same troll to boot.

We’re overrun with them again, not just in this thread…

I’m starting to think that commenting on many of the new “rate my routine” “need help with insertwhatever” etc threads that are popping up is really a complete waste of time.
At least half of them seem to be made by trolls.

It’s happened half a dozen times during the past 30 minutes that I typed up a fairly large post with lots of detail to help some guy on here… And then read his post/OP again and ended up not submitting my answer because I realized that the guy asking the question(s) was probably some 13 year old kid who doesn’t have anything else to do but troll internet forums.

90 percent of kids today think that great fun must equal drinking themselves into oblivion.

The other 10 percent are the morons you see commenting on EVERY training vid on youtube and starting idiotic threads/making bullshit posts on here and other forums.

Agree.

This thread is brutal.

Amen.

5’7 140 pounds.

So basically you’re telling us you’re like a barbell for a warm-up set we could use for various exercises.

A pretty barbell at that.

I hope I’m not wasting my time by responding. Everyone’s going to have their own opinions as to when to bulk and when to cut, shit profx just recently decided to lean out a bit if im not mistaken and that was at around +250 lbs…you’re going to have to play it by ear. Keep in mind, when it comes to your body and building it, you’re the artist so build it however you want…but don’t expect guys who are dedicated at building large physiques to be impressed if you’re ripped at 140 lbs. If you’re 5’7’‘, I would get up to 185 lbs at least before leaning out again…some guys will tell you 200, but at 5’7’', 185 usually looks big. Either way, play it by ear.

How long should it take to get from 140 to 185 if you do it the right way and don’t just eat everything in sight?
