Hey, when you saw the Stone Roses, was Mani playing bass?

Isn’t he playing with Primal Scream now?[/quote]

Yeah. Pretty damn good for a bunch of Scottish hooligans.

It’s hard for me to pick a best one, because a lot of gigs are affected in the context in which you see them (circumstances, companions, etc). Possibly with that in mind, I would go for -

Agnostic Front (Leicester, circa 2003)
I’m 16 year’s old and it’s my first hardcore gig. I’ve never felt so scared and yet so alive at the same time. I’ve been to around 200 shows since and this was probably the most violent pit I’ve been in. Skinhead’s fighting bikers, bouncer’s fighting whoever, absolute mayhem.

The Pogues (Dublin, Christmas eve 2005)
Just really special. Ol’Shano was on top form and jumping around with a couple of thousand drunken Irishman was one of the most endearing experiences I’ve had to date.

Sick of it all (Southampton, July 2007)
New York hardcore punk legends SOIA play a little venue that’s closing in the next week. I’d only been living in Southampton for a few months, but this little club had become my weekend haunt and I was really sad to see it closing it’s doors. With that in mind, band and audience gave it all they had. Awesome pile-on at the end as we sang the hardcore classic Us vs. Them. Vid below

(I’m the shirtless dude on the singer’s right lol)

Dude, I can relate to the first concert vibe. Mine was The Scorpions with Quiet Riot opening for them during the 1982 Blackout Tour and I was twelve years old. It was at an outdoor stadium and they had us packed in a line like cattle from about noon until three or four in the afternoon until they started letting people into the actual stadium.

Of course every metal head in line was getting hammered or stoned out of their minds in the baking sun in that admission line. My buddy had his vintage eighties era denim jacket on with all the metal band patches sewn onto it and this shirtless stinky asshole in line behind us who had been slamming Jack Daniels proceeds to upchuck the jack and his lunch all over my friends prized jacket.

We were too young to do anything and the drunk guy and his friends were quite a bit older so my buddy just took off his jacket and threw it into a garbage can. The bikers, metal heads, fights (there were many), was a pretty freaky experience for a twelve year old. Ha ha, good memories.

Went to the Uncle Sam Jam at Deer Creek in Indy when i was 13, great venue if you get a chance to see a show there.

Bon Jovi was amazing there, as was Train, reel big fish, and believe it or not Melissa Ethridge was pretty fricken enjoyable.

I saw Big & Rich and Brooks & Dunn at Deer Creek a couple summers ago, and that was a great concert, im not a huge country fan, but these guys are great showman. There was also an amazing amount of drinking out on the lawn, and i ended up making out with 2 girls at the same time during the encore, so all in all, it was damn good show.

The funniest concert I attended was Goo-Goo Dolls in Northern California. I had just dropped my first 60lbs and thought I was a total bad azz when it came to strength!

Im not sure if it was my bright idea or my best friend Bekki’s idea…but we decided as soon as we got to the concert she’d sit on my shoulders. After all…we were two cute blondes…why wouldnt Jonny Reznick notice us!!! ROFLMAO

I sit down so she can climb on top of my shoulders. I try to stand up with her on top of me and I thought I was going to break my back!!! I scream, “Dammit Bekki, you’ve gotten fat!!!” She smacks me in the head as she screams back, “Shut up, youre fat too and I cant help it!”

We nearly fall over in front of everyone - we were on the 3rd row. The ugly, little short, fat guitar player did look at us but only with a look of disgust as the two chuncker chicks in their size 14 outfits were thinking they’re all cute but making a total ass out of themselves!!!

The big burly body guard gives us a dirty look, points in a downward motion, and mouths, “Sit the fuck down!”

Oh my gosh…that was the funniest thing!!!

(You have to realize, Bekki had been a size 0 the entire 18 years we’d been best friends, until she had 2 kids. Now we are at this concert, both wearing the same size, thinking we were lookin’ all cute and doing nothing but making total idiots out of ourselves!!! It really was helarious!!!)

Dang, Im laughing now, just thinking about it!!! LOL

I haven’t been to many concerts but here are the best that I have been to:

Smashing Pumpkins with The Bravery opening-2007 at the McKay Events Center in Orem, Utah. I was against the stage and had a great time. Billy Corgan is a great showman.

Eric Clapton with Robert Cray opening-2007 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake. It was awesome. Cray played “Crossroads” with Clapton for the encore.

Flogging Molly-2006 at the University of Utah. These guys are great and really put on an enjoyable show.

Aye, fucking incredible band. I’m seeing them again in May, been 2 years since I’ve last saw them. Can’t bloody wait!.

The first concert I saw was Jefferson , it had to be 67 or 68 I was 9 or 10, My favorite concert was Actually Cher , it was a small venue .I could have hit her with a paper wad:)

Blizzard of '78 my sister took me to see Kiss and it’s all I could think about for months. Now, it probably wasn’t the best concert ever but wth, I was like 11 years old.

Believe it or not Pearl Jam is still the best live show out there IMHO. Since I’m older with kids and don’t get out as much I simply make sure I see them every chance I get, the last time being at The Vic in Chicago which is a very small venue and hence was a very memorable show.

That brings me to DMB who I saw in the early 90’s at a very small venue in Cincinnati and it was incredible. I gave them a shot 2 other times at larger venues and was extremely disappointed…they need to be seen at a small venue.

Worst: when I was in college I went to an Aerosmith concert because my roomates were all like “let’s go see Aerosmith dude” let’s just say they were very unimpressive to put it mildly…it may be that I just don’t find them all that artistic though, who knows.

Now Pink Floyd was a good concert but personally I get more out of listening to them at home.

Great thread btw, a lot of good stories…keep em coming.

Btw, has anybody out there ever had the opportunity to see Split Enz in concert? I figure since we’re WWW and all that, some UK and down under guys/girls may have had the opportunity. A friend and I really wanted to see them when I was in high school but then they suddenly broke up.

I would have seen Crowded House because I liked their sound too, but it wouldn’t have been the same thats for sure. 2nd question if there is in fact a Split Enz fan or 2 out there…is Neil Finn a dick or what? Any affiliation he had with a band seemed to turn over members like a roasting pig.

Hey Mouse,
I’m not a Pearl Jam fan myself, but I think its so cool to hear that “dear old dad is rockin’ out to PJ!”

Parents these days are soooo different than parents were when I grew up. We had to listen to Johnny Cash (my dad taught me how to play ‘Walk the Line’ on the guitar) and Porter Wagoner (he lived with my grandparents and my grandpa used to drive him around to the different radio stations so he could hand out his music.)

I just think it would be radical to hear my parents say, “Kids, me & your father are going to rock out to Motley Crue tonight. See ya in the morning!!”

Damn…too bad I don’t have kids…I think I’d be one-hell-uv-a cool mom!

Besides…what kid doesn’t want to see their mom’s best friend on her shoulders at a Goo-Goo Dolls concert!!! ROFLMAO!!!

I’ve seen a lot of great shows. Worst show was GnR on the second half of the Illusion Tour in Dayton OH. Soundgarden opened, and sucked. Axl was late, angry and sucked big time. I had seen them on the first part of the tour in Cleveland and it was very good, with Skid Row for openers…

I am going to see Tesla in Ft Watyne next month and I am stoked. Anyone going? Anyone seen Tesla?

First of all I still love Soundgarden but they sounded terrible live.

I saw Tesla back in '92 or '93 at Vet’s Memorial in Columbus. We had 3rd row seats at the side of the stage, unfortunately I only remember the first 2 songs. That was the last time I ever got plastered at a concert…still pisses me off.

one of the best concerts I have ever been too was a Type 0- in Laff. La. before they hit it big.Tickets were not selling out and there were less than 200 ppl there.
Music was live an in your face.

On the more mellow side I saw Manwich, which some of you may know as Better Than Ezra w/ a diff drummer, though thye covered all the Better Than Ezra songs, small audiance once again but it’s hard to top their style of music an they really seemed to enjoy themselves.

Also by chance got to see “Hootie an the Blowfish” for $2 @ a pub, next week thye did two consecutive back to back shows ob Letterman.

Other shows that are memorable.
1st Family Value tour w/ korn, ice cube, limp bizkit an a few others.

White Zombie in N.O. @ the hosue of blues, W/ Filter as the opening act. I had bruises an a black eye after that one.

Smashing Pumpkins w/ Garabage opening up for them.

Aerosmith “9 lives tour” was also amazing.

There are many others I have seen but those are most memorable.

Bands I never saw but wish had/can Pantera, Damage Plan, Black Label Society, Ozzy, Five Finger Death Punch W.A.S.P. and Ozzy back in the day.

You’re right. Tool has mastered the art of a light show. I saw them in Evansville last summer and it was impressive.

Nin’s Fragility Tour in 2000

…oh wait never mind, I only watched the DVD

Coolness is fleeting in the eyes of your children.

When my kids were little, they thought I was cool. When they were teenagers, they were embarrassed of me. Now they tolerate my eccentricities.

I heard in the early eighties when Tyler and the boys were heavily immersed in ze booze and ze drugs they put on some awful shows. Being near comatose on stage forgetting words to songs, just awful shows. Also, Joe Perry and left the band for a stint during this time. I caught them in 87 when they first sobered up and Joe Perry was with them again and I must say they put on a helluva show! Steven Tyler’s stage antics and showmanship were killer and Joe Perry was ripping the hell out of his guitar. It was a great show!

Janes Addiction in Hawaii in 92 was another notable.

LOL…I was kidding about kids wanting to see their mom’s best friend on her shoulders…Im sure it would be even more embarrassing for them as it was for us!!! However, it does make for a great story and we still laugh our asses off when we take a trip down memory lane!! ROFL!!

Oh Momma…Im sure you were (and probably still are) the coolest mom in the school district!! Any mom who can jam on a guitar cant be all bad
