Why is the rest of the country always so far behind Texas?

Idaho scores lower than Texas according to Brady. Party on Idaho.

Not in my child’s school.

Why do Americans think MORE guns will solve violence issues?

[quote]SimonSays wrote:

if you kill a violent person, there is one less violent person in the world.

Why does the rest fo the world think we’re obsessed with guns?

[quote]SimonSays wrote:

Because the criminals will have guns regardless of what the law says. Only law-abiding people are disarmed by gun control. In Mexico, for example, there is strict gun control. The cartels are armed better than the army. Rather than be lambs waiting for slaughter, it seems fair that law-abiding people be allowed to defend themselves, especially in places where there have been a lot of mass killings, like schools. We don’t need an American Beslan either

Some Americans are not looking to solve the problem of violence. They are just looking for a chance to shoot back.

It is a ridiculous notion that violence is caused by guns. It is caused by people. Taking their means of self defense away is not a viable solution either. Why should the government get all the fire-power?

All good points.

But comparing America and Australia, Our gun related crime is very low. Guns are very hard to come by even for criminals and our police are just recently considering changing from 6 shot revolvers to semi-auto 9mm.

Wouldn’t the best approach be to limit the amount of firearms within a country?

No. However, keeping them out of the hands of criminals is.

But again, what happens when the people want to overthrow their government and they have no means to defend themselves because they have allowed their government to take them?

The government will never limit the firepower it uses against its enemies why should you settle for anything less?

Why not? Gun control would also minimize the number of school shootings?

Australia has never had a school shooting.

What do you think makes Australia so different from America, that widespread gun bans would not result in the decreased rate of gun related crime?

What country are you from?

SimonSays look up the Heller DC Gun Case thread where another Australian (what is it with you guys? heh heh) brought up the exact same points you did and they were answered.

Stop comparing your country to ours. We are different and it’s not the gun laws making the difference.

What is the difference? That’s a huge debate.

Bottom line: The areas in the U.S. with the lowest rates of gun violence are also those with the LEAST strict gun control. And areas that have enacted stricter gun control laws have been met with MORE gun violence.

By making narcotics illegal we’ve kept them from being distributed. In addition, we’ve been able to prevent a violent black market from springing up around the use and sell of recreational drugs. Great thing they’re illegal and not a problem. Should work with guns, too.

The other Australian wasn’t particularly impressed with the argument that if everyone has guns you can just shoot back.

Americans have an ingrained attitude that the righteous always wins and that grannys are going to blow away hardened crims.

Of course the idea of making guns less available to crims has no merit. They always make themselves known so that everyone else has a chance to shoot first.

I have a three year old. It’s very difficult to take away her toys too.

NO REALLY?
I guess that’s normal considering your gun laws. Duh.

Yet! Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.
If i want to kill you, then ill find some other means. Like a knife for example, or a snake in your bed :stuck_out_tongue:
Guns just level the battlefield tremendously.

Criminals are cowards. They prey on the week and the DEFENCELESS! We have gun control here in Canada. It does absolutely nothing to prevent violent crime but cost us a fucking small fortune to enforce.

The worst part is that it affects the lifes of tens of thousands of ural citizens. People that rely of gun in their every day lifes.

God didn’t make mankind equal, Smith & Weston did!

Agreed. Like I said, we made drugs illegal and you don’t see criminals with them, now do you? There’s not a violent drug culture in our country, right? And having made drugs illegal, otherwise good people aren’t being put in jail for possession, right? Exactly. We must replicate our success with the war on drugs, but targeting gun owners.

Funny how you make up crap while when presented with FACTS in the other thread…you don’t reply. It was shown that areas with less scrict gun control have less gun violence. It was shown this was true even in cities. It was shown that INCREASING gun control in cities INCREASES gun violence.

When this was shown you said nothing.

Like I said there. Read the statistics on gun crime and let the adults speak.

What’s sad here is that teachers find it necessary to protect their students. As much money as our gov’t takes and spends they fall short on one of their primary responsibilities, protecting us. American’s have the right to protect themselves but, considering the money we give them, we should not be required to protect ourselves so often. 40% of my salary and I still have to worry about my kids being killed in a classroom. Brilliant.
