Conan the Barbarian

I really like Kevin Sorbo, but that movie was awful. At least the soundtrack was somewhat decent.
Too much for Conan’s ascendant…

^ btw, where is your avatar from?

Movie should have been called Bronan the Barbronian.

First 20 min were damn good…The rest was a waste of time.

Anybody who says this was better than any of the other Conan’s is high on the 60’s dope.

Good. Fuck em.

Conan, What is best in life?

To not star in a horrible film and hear the lamentation of the fanbase.

Masters of the Universe

you mean He-man?

[quote]kaisermetal wrote:

He-Man is the Master of the Universe I think. Or something like him and his buddies were the Masters of the Universe.

Sort of like Superman is The Man of Steel, Batman is The Caped Crusader and Starflight One is The Plane That Couldn’t Land.

Yeah, that’s Dolph Lundgren as He-Man. That particular shot is from the end fight :

Actually, The Masters of the Universe are the bad guys. It was changed later on, but in the first intro of the cartoon, it said something about “Fighting against the Masters of the Universe”.
I can’t find it now.

When I was a kid, He-Man was my hero. So I’ve brought him back to my present as motivation.

EDIT : Found it : Retro Junk

“Together we defend Castle Greyskull from the Evil Masters of the Universe.”

He-Man is fairly connected to Conan. There’s this myth, not debunked as far I know, that McDonald’s had the rights for the toys of Conan the Barbarian movie, in a partnership with Mattel, but the movie was too violent to be linked with toys, so they turned Conan into a blond guy and created a new story.

That’s what I had heard, it was originally going to be a Conan toyline but Mattel was turned off by the blood and sex so they retooled him to be He-Man, Thulsa Doom was Skeletor etc. The old mini comics pretty much sort of confirm it He-Man was a barbarian and not the most powerful man in the universe, they didn’t use vehicles until 2yrs later with the cartoon etc.

The rumor is Masters of the Universe was supposed to be a New Gods film, He-Man was Orion, Man-At-Arms was Scott Free, Teela as Big Barda, Skeletor Darksied, Beastman Kalibak, and the strangest is the Sorceress as High Father. Cyborg the Van Damme film was a retooled Masters of the Universe sequel

I’m glad it was how it was, though. It’s cheesy and all that, but Frank Langella as Skeletor is amazing. One of the best villains ever.

“Finally Greyskull is ours”
“NO! Mine…”

wow, i would never imagined He-man could be so grim and dark, warr He-man the Cimmerian

Thought this belonged here!

Looking over it I’d forgotten just how many of these figures I had as a kid. Very nostalgiac!

I hate that kind of threads. I can’t stop reading the entire thread and time flies.
“Ok, two more pages and I close it…three more…ok, I stop at the 50th page…well, I’m here, I may as well check everything”

I saw Conan this afternoon, it just opened here in Taiwan.

It was great. So long as you understand what you’re in for. I think saying it sucked would be like going to McDonald’s for a Big Mac meal and saying it was awful because it’s not a rib eye steak. This movie did all the things it had to do and did them well.

Maybe I was a little bit ready to be disappointed because I’d heard bad things, but at 38 I really don’t think I would do that, the same way I no longer do anything like get my hopes up from a trailer. I just think to myself whether I’ll go see a movie or not…no “That movie will fucking rock!” kind of stuff.

And I’m not just one of those guys that’s like “So long as Conan cuts off a bunch heads and bangs a wench it’s awesome!” It had a good enough plot that felt like reading one of the Savage Sword of Conan comics (those larger sized black and white ones that could show beheadings and tits because it was technically a ‘magazine’)

I find it a little strange that someone wouldn’t at least give it a 7 out of 10, but apparently it’s not doing very well.
