DeMint as one of the few Members of Congress addressing Congress’s role in screwing up our financial system

Rainjack-- you think you could bring yourself to vote for this guy?

Did this guy vote Yea or Neh?

EDIT: Dayum… DeMint just pwnd Congress…

Another outstanding Speech.

Mufasa

This is the guy the Republicans should be running for President, instead of the current side-show.

Wow. That man went point for point with pretty much everything that needs to be said right now.

Wait. A Senator actually speaking the truth?

Everything he said is absolutely correct. Finally somebody willing to actually say what the real problem is.

Like I have said before, Repubs are not perfect by any stretch but if we had more of them then his view and alternate ideas would have had a much better chance of getting through.

You will never get a solid free market low investment tax approach with the dems in control. Not going to happen.

We may not get it totally with repubs either but we sure do have a much better chance.

At least go with the QB that will give us the best chance. Sure he may throw a couple of picks but it is better than the alternative that may throw 6 and fumble several snaps.

Ron Paul has been saying this shit for years.

This may get a “DUH” response from you guys; but it points to another frustrating thing about all this.

What DeWitt pointed out was a feeling felt by may Republicans (AND Democrats).

The original plan (remember; this plan is essentially the original one that was rejected, with a LOT of added pork and incentives; or an added “tax package” as some call it); was the brain-child of the Federal Reserve Chairman, who was APPOINTED by the Republican President.

So it appears that Bush and his appointed Chairman not only “gave the finger” to the American people by pushing through this awful plan; he also gave the finger to the majority of his party and many Democrats who opposed it.

Too simplistic?

Again, its one of those things that makes no sense to me.

Mufasa

To tell you the truth…

I don’t think ANYONE knows “how Washington works”, INCLUDING many in Congress.

The repubs in Congress offered another plan but it had no chance of passing with the dems because it was too free market with cap gains reductions, etc.

The dems had NO plan of their own. They just keep talking about the Bush policies that led us here but they can never point to one specific example. Other than some ridiculous deregulation argument.

They are trying very hard to tip toe through this without their support and defense of Fannie and Freddie coming out. Which is where this virus started.

The dem’s all knowing and all compassionate and all powerful fed gov that the people must have to protect them from themselves created this mess.

I’m glad that he spoke out, but I don’t understand why such an intelligent man didn’t understand that destroying the country IS and WAS the goal of the Left. We react in shock that killing ourselves actually works. That’s the goal of all the Barney Franks in the world.

I used to be a liberal all the way through college but have recently just realized my views have been much more conservative than I thought in that I believe there should be much less government control over everyone’s lives. Yes I’m pro-gay marriage, against drug regulations, and pro-choice… but these aren’t the old issues of the GOP. In my own life I am pro-life but it isn’t my or the governments place to dictate what other’s moral values should be. Unfortunately the neocons have ignored the old thought that government has no place in this.

Men like McCotter, Paul, and DeMint are the one’s who are winning people over to the Republican side… NOT ASSWIPES LIKE MCCAIN AND GIULLIANI.

This country faces real economic crisis down the road and these congressmen are the only one’s who actually seem to be concerned about it.

This is where I think you are dead wrong…

They don’t WANT to destroy the country but unfortunately their economic policies are going to. I think they think they are doing what is good for this country… even though they are DEAD WRONG in my opinion.

Not that this is a pro life thread, I would disagree about the government messing with abortion. If life is considered at the some time during fetal development, the government is merely protecting life, not mnessing with a woman’s body.

Just two days ago I saw a thread were recent research with ultrasounds show that twins in the womb, fight, touch each other, kick each other and so on. Sounds like a normal set of twins like I have.

Every thing I see in recent years about fetal development seems to fall more on the this is a human, not a glop of tissue side. And if there is a possibility it should be considered life, shouldn’t the abortion proponents have to disprove it’s life as opposed to the other way around?

I don’t think they really care. These people get their power and money from controlling taxes. The political base of the democrats is based on giving people stuff form other people, not saying we’re going to get out of your way so you can get your own.

You are where I am, AOG…

Fiscal irresponsibility will take us ALL down the tubes; it does’t matter whether you are gay or not; Pro-Choice or not; or whether you like the Bears better than the Packers (or the Cowboys, for RJ).

Guys like DeMint and McCotter ARE winning “converts”, and appear to be the voice of not only reason but rebellion in all this mess.

IF the RNC is smart; they will capitalize on this Voter discontent as a result of this latest fiasco, and point out ALL the “YEA’s” on this “bailout”, in every upcoming election for the next few years.

With that being said; a lot of Republicans voted for this plan. So they require as much scrutiny as the Dems who voted for it.

I don’t want to hijack either but I highlighted the word that makes this a tough discussion to have.

I understand your concern though and I agree with your personal position. That’s why I choose life, but it’s not governments place to say what dictates life IMO.

I think we agree for the most part so let’s get back to the topic at hand before this escalates.

What do you think this race would be like if Paul won the nomination? He’s the only candidate that back up arguments with examples from history and actual evidence.

I HOPE the republicans can capitalize on this as well…

This is a golden opportunity in history for people to to exercise what our freedoms can really do. Let’s do something before we lose this great honor our society has been granted. No other nation in history has been so free from government oppression, I hope people realize this.

I’ll be writing a letter to the GOP headquarters outlining my concerns as a citizen and the issues this country is facing. I think other should as well.

The ONLY reason I am registered republican is to vote for the primary candidate who actually have the values I stand for.

Let’s stop playing the blame game.

We need to go back to being constructive and not destructive in what we worry about IMO.

Whining isn’t going to change a God damn thing.
