Completely Off Topic: Car ?

Sorry to post more off topic gibberish, but
I’m not familiar with any web car forums (if
you know of any please post them), and I
recall their was some discussion of cars on
the forum a while ago. Anyway… I need to
trade in my trusty ZR2 blazer, and I was going
to get another one until I found out that
chevy is discontinuing them this year (pissed
me off…). Anyway so now I need to decide
on something else. I refuse to get a 4 door,
4WD station wagon (AKA most of todays SUVs)
so I’m thinking about a Jeep Wrangler, or else
skipping the truck thing altogether and going
for an Acura RSX. So my question is: do any of
you have any experiences with either of these
vehicles? Good or bad. Any info that would
help clarify would be appreciated. PS, due to
where I live, I can use the 4WD, but I’m
curious to find out how bad Wranglers are on
the highway (I’ve heard they suck).

Edmunds is a pretty good site for basic reviews and price/value calculations.

Rental car prices are way down right now.
It’s well worth paying $30 per day or whatever to rent a model of car you may be interested in and see how it works for you in real life. You can try a bunch of different cars without spending too much money. There’s a big difference between a test drive, and actually having the car for a while.

I think you will be suprised at how well a new wrangler handles. The coil suspension literally soaks up the road bumps and you’d think it’s a caddy. Also, I have a 96 vette Grand Sport and I’ll be damned if the wrangler doesnt handle better than the vette through curves of road. The only thing about a jeep is even if it means losing your left nut, make sure you get the six cylinder. You will thank me for that tip, especially if you do a lot of highway driving. PS, if you want to buy a sports car, the vette is for sale (it’s one of only 1000), maybe the mod. can hook us up over email.

NOTE FROM MOD- SORRY, BUT NO.

Thanks for the tips! I’ve already been to
edmunds site. Problem with rentals is I’m
having a hard time finding those cars for
rent. Also found real world experiences of
people w/those on the epinions web site -
which is what I was looking for.

Thanks for the info on the Wrangler. I was
definitely planning on getting the 6. I
actually don’t do a lot of highway driving
right now, but if airlines are messed up due
to the terrorist attack it might become more
important, if you know what I mean. I’m
not really in the market for a vette, but
thanks for the offer.

dodge dakota!!! a good sized truck, and it’s sporty. www.dodgedakotas.com or www.4adodge.com

OK, I’ve figured it out! I’ve got to get a
Jeep ‘Liberty’ just for the name. Who
cares if they are butt ugly and designed for
soccer moms! The name is just too cool. OK
I’m joking (bad joke). I don’t think I could
actually drive one of those.

Okay free ex. I told you the good about the jeep, now for the rest. If road noise will bother you, then you must get a hard top, although I had a 98 and as of 2001 the new soft top has more layers for better sound deadening so test drive and decide for yourself. Other than that frontal and rear collisions are supposedly very good, however God help you with those tin foil doors if you get T-boned by as much as a motorcycle. All in all I miss my Jeep dearly as I traded it in for a truck when my baby was born, and lucky for me I did because I was involved in an accident (not my fault) not too long after and my truck was absolutely demolished but I got out without even as much as a bruise. I shutter to think of what my condition would have been in the wrangler. But damn they are fun.

How about a Subaru WRX? It is faster than an Acure RSX, and had all-wheel drive. It isn’t a beautiful car, but the look grows on you, and there is a good aftermarket for spiffing up the car. I have am old impreza, and it is a blast to drive. Subaru also has an excellent safety record, and makes reliable cars.

As someone who drives pretty much everything, the RSX is one sweet drive. The Wrangler is really a truck. Admittedly, I’m a little biased against trucks because I like to stop quickly and go fast around corners. Despite what you said, you should really consider a Subaru WRX. You’ll be pleasantly surprised with the performance. From the factory, the car does everything right and it’s faster than 98% of all vehicles, plus with a few mods it’ll keep up with pretty much anything. And understated in the right colors. Do yourself a favor and test drive an RSX and then a WRX.
