Competing w/ Not So Perfect Form

Is bad form an issue if you compete? My bench and squat form is fine, but I round my back during 1RM deadlifts. I do not use straps, a belt or chalk. I also do NOT hitch the weight up. When I’ve locked out, I lower the weight down and do not drop it.

thank you

You’ll be fine.

No ones form is perfect when lifting maximum weights. And like Frank said…

Thanks fellas. I was just curious…I didn’t think it was possible to cheat a deadlift (besides hitching).

As long as you follow the requirements of the lifts, no one cares about your form. Most max attempts have less than perfect form.

as long as you follow the rules form really doesn’t matter. Just check that “silly” things like your grip, belt, and foot position for example meet the rules of your fed.

Meet lifts are often ugly because they are maxes. I competed last week and my second squat was pretty much a good morning. I got whites though because it hit all the criteria for the lift. Looking awesome wasn’t one of them.

Like other people mention, make sure you know all the technical rules.
