My brother used to quote the Greenlantern poem or saying whatever it is.
weren’t they going to do a white tiger and black panther movies?
gasp
It’s a oath not a poem!!!
In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evil's might,
Beware my power...Green Lantern's light!
I think Black Panther is still on the table with John Singleton directing.
haha!!! he would have been horrified if I had said poem too come to think of it.

Besides Batman, I’m not a big fan of anything by D.C.
Daredevil is my favorite.
You may need to give some of the newer Batman/Superman team ups a try. They tend to be pretty good. I bought that Justice League New Frontier DVD and that made me really like The Greenlantern.
I do agree that Marvel is usually a step ahead when it comes to catering to adults. The Supreme Power series is just plain old bad ass. They don’t pull punches. The only thing they don’t do is use cuss words in print (instead, they use the usual “*#@!”). They won’t hesitate to show a young girl in Darfur pull out a machete and cut the head off of the Janjaweed who just raped her.
If anyone hasn’t checked them out yet, you are missing out. Nighthawk, needless to say, is my favorite.
Why does that not surprise me in the least?..The Marvel Max books are an answer to DC’s Vertigo line…for a long time Marvel had the hottest artist but DC had the hottest writers. It’s only in recent years they got the formula right.

I might give them a read at the bookstore in the future. Generally I don’t buy individual issues anymore, I wait for them to put out a graphic novel compilation.
Some other good stuff:
The Ultimates: This is the Ultimate-Marvel take on the Avengers, and what a take it is. They make Captain America a bad motherfucker. Quality.
I don’t know if anyone ever read any of their stuff, but CrossGen had some decent shit out there before they went bankrupt. Scion, Ruse and Route 666 are all worth checking out if you can deal with the fact that there will be no ending.
Manga: Blade of the Immortal…anyone who hasn’t read this needs to try it out. Easily my favorite comic series ever. Manji is a man’s man.
Also Professer X, Did you read the Supreme Power: Nighthawk limited series? It was pretty decent.
Anything put out by Marvel’s MAX line is usually quality.

Vertigo has made some really good stuff. I forgot that D.C. owned them. Fables is good and of course, everyone likes V For Vendetta.

Yes, it’s Rachel…The Excalibur Crew

Blade of the Immortal

One of my all time favorite books and top artist, Travis Charest

I tried to get into that but it goes on forever…I’ll most likely pick it up again when the series concludes and it’s all paperbacked
This thread has made me really want to start up my subscriptions again. I had forgotten how good some of the artists were and the storylines are addictive.
One of my favorite comics was when Wolverine was sent in to kill that toxic kid. He was just a young teenager. He brought him a beer and then killed him in a cave. That story SURPRISED ME! I wasn’t expecting them to kill a kid.

Of course. He isn’t my favorite for no reason. The ONLY thing I hated about that particular series was how “hawkish” they made him look facially when he wasn’t in costume. They quit doing that in follow up series. I guess I am faulting the artist. The storyline is too mature for tv…which makes it perfect. Some might argue that the characters are strangely similar to Batman’s, but the Joker was never impaled through the heart leaving a gaping bleeding wound in his chest as the grapple line that did it drags him underwater to die…and never come back.
I really hope they keep it up.

No worries X, the Max books are specifically written with adults in mind…the formula is not going to change…I still have contacts at Marvel

It is entirely doubtful that Wonder Woman could even handle Superman’s alien super-spunk. That’s why he never hooked up with that reporter chick because his love juices would have totally killed her. Can you imagine a super-fetus growing inside a mortal woman’s womb. Duh!
No way, the post-Crisis retcon clearly says that Superman doesn’t develop his powers until his is leaving high school, since he needed at least that long to absorb enough energy from the sun for his powers to manifest.
