Comic Character Battles

So lame. Giving this douchebag the relics of the Marvel Universe and Marvel let it happen.

In a crossover no other character would have made sense at the time. DC was number 1 at the time. Marvel only started beating them in sales years later. But even then, there is no character in Marvel that even comes close to the iconic status of Superman, whether the actual sales reflect that or not (even at DC Batman beats him solidly and has more series in his name too). Superman is still the character best known worldwide. Hell, I bet your your grandma knows who he is, as does mine.

And Superman a douchebag? Why? I know they fucked up the character big time over the years but interested in your opinion.
His weaknesses are ignored at convenient times so he can win or survive, he makes cooler and more skilled characters look like shit because he just swoops in and save the day (Green lantern, Wonder woman, Martian Manhunter, Flash), they’ve changed his powers so much over the years that I’m not sure if he can sneeze and blow up a universe or barely jump over a tall building, he manages to beat warriors like Darkseid or Wonder Woman with the fighting skills he learned while working on the farm, he gets his Godlike powers because he has some reaction to the earth son and not because of skill, blessing from mystical source, or training.

Also, if one untrained kid from Krypton is this much of a problem for DC universe, there used to be a whole planet of Kryptonians.

I don’t like him and I never will. DC will always shift the universe so he’ll win just like they shift the universe in Marvel so Wolverine will be in every issue.

haha QFT

Can’t help but still love the character though. Started reading at 4 (40 years ago this April) and I guess it stuck. Superman was also the first and only movie I saw, as a kid, with my dad (he hated dark confined spaces when younger but went anyway cause he knew how much I wanted to see it) so there is a lot there for me. I hate how they so often messed him up but what are you going to do, sometimes you stick with something no matter what, hoping it will get better.

Big fan of the other characters you mentioned as well though. Green Lantern is a favorite and I have hundreds of his comics as well. Love the Flash, maybe not so much as of late as they are making too much of his powers. Batman is a huge favorite, especially the many many graphic novels of which most are excellent. Also have every Hulk from the very beginning (yep, close to a 1000 comics in which he appeared), same with Spiderman as well as Thor and the Avengers. Followed many of the X-Men stories for years but it got too much. Could have paid of the mortgage by now.

Wolverine was a favorite but they are kind off beating that character to death. You are right, he really does NOT have to be in every story line

The one character I have up there with Superman is the original Captain Marvel and have to admit I choked up when reading his “death by cancer” graphic novel. Do you know it? Ahead of it’s time. First time I believe they really dealt with the death of a major character in such detail. Still have it wrapped in plastic

Doctor Strange vs Dr. Strangefate
Dr Fate is older as it is the Helm of Nabu that is Fate but if Strange can come up with a spell to interfere with Nabu and his host I give the edge to Strange

Always liked Dr. Strange. Forgot I had a few dozen Defenders (teamed up in that one with Hulk and Namor of all heroes) issues in the garage. Stories were quite good if I recall correctly.

Let’s just agree that Wolverine is overrated.

Haha, it’s about popularity. If they can boost sales by throwing him into every story, they’ll do it. Apparently, it works, otherwise, they would have stopped.

Dr Fate is diff to Strangefate. Strangefate created the Amalgam universe. He is a combination of Dr Strange, Dr Fate and Prof X. He would beat Strange.

Ok, how about some fiery characters? Human Torch vs. Firestar? Wasn’t there another X-man who could cover their body in fire, too?

Sunfire, you mean?

Magma is another mutant with ‘fire’ based abilities.

Yes Sunfire, that’s who I was thinking of. Human Torch vs. Sunfire and throw in Firestar, Magma, and Cannonball too, for the fun of it. Battle royale, rank 'em. Who wins?
