Not meaning to knock it if you like it and the set up suits you, I just could never make it work. I’m a bit recoil sensitive, so the heavier weight of the P238 helps me quite a bit.
What are y’all’s thoughts on open carry? I personally think it’s asking for trouble.
I have mixed feelings. I would love to open carry but don’t because of all the unwanted attention it would draw. I’m not at all concerned about being a target for someone with bad intentions. I truly believe that if more folks open carried, we’d live in a much safer world.
I just don’t want to deal with the uneducated manager at Publix or a gawking kid or a politically correct mom busting my chops.
I think if Concealed Carry is Legal, open carry should be legal. That way if someone accidentally sees your gun you don’t get arrested.
But in practice it’s a bad idea. It gets unwarranted attention from bad guys and makes you a target. Most guys situational awareness is shit. There was a guy in the news recently in VA who got his pistol taken from him. You can’t maintain the 21 foot rule in the civilian world.
I think open carry has its place. If I lived in a very hot climate I might opt for it strictly out of comfort. It is unquestionably practical in wilderness settings. It is also nice that, should rule of law break down, I have the option of openly displaying a sidearm as an active deterrent.
That said, open carry offers no benefit to me whatsoever in normal day-to-day conditions. I have no interest in street activism or frightening sensitive people. I’d rather not deal with police who might get summoned by a “concerned citizen” who is unaware of the law.
Simply stated, I’d rather nobody I encounter know that I am armed, including any potential aggressors.
I live in the south where it gets plenty hot and humid. I haven’t been able to find a comfortable way to CC when wearing shorts and a tee shirt that fits well.
Anyone have an opinion regarding pocket holsters? Thinking about a recluse.
Appendix with a single stack, perhaps.
I have a few IWB holsters and a Glock 26. No problem at all for 9 months of the year. I make it work when it’s 90 degrees, it’s just not ideal.

This. Never give a hint to what your true capabilities are to an enemy.
Let them underestimate you.
I’m not arguing with either of you, but when I’m out in the middle of no where, say kayaking or hiking, I deliberately don’t do a good job of concealing. I figure someone with bad intentions passing by would see that I’m armed, and move on to easier prey. And I would rather they do that, than me have to shoot them.
I’m not saying this is the right way to do, I’m throwing it out there so that if my thinking is wrong someone smarter than me can set me straight.
I tend to agree with Uncle Gabby. When running around town, I conceal, but there are definitely times where open carry feels safer. My home is marked pretty clearly. I have a little signe that says Nothing in this home is worth your life. Also have clear markings that I’m an NRA member and such. I’d rather deter someone than have to shoot them because they weren’t warned.
