Ok,u see John Berardi,Cy Willson all doing majors relating to their interesting professions. What majors are they taking anyone know? I wanna do something that has something to do with training, body etc. I am thinking about it…
Pls help me edit this post,I think I might not have spoken well…
What I wanna know is,a website which lists down a bunch of majors and lists what kind of career opportunies u get when u major in those majors…there are so many out there,I find it hard to find one that fits me.I wanna know what kind of things ppl do with their majors etc.
If there is a website like that sign me up, but I don’t think there is. Yes, kinesiology, exercise science, etc. are good majors. What are you wanting to do? If it’s just to be a strength coach, it really doesn’t matter what you have. Sadly, about the only thing employers look for is a CSCS certification. It would be funnny if some of the contributors at t-mag applied for jobs and they wouldn’t get them just because they weren’t “certified.” Chances are if you’re going to go into research, athletic training, etc. you will have to get a masters degree. I just took an easier major “recreation” for my BS, and then took kinesiology, anatomy, and others for my electives. Then my masters went to exercise physiology.
Awe…The inevitable ‘which program should I enter into if I want to learn about being huge’ question. One obvious program of choice is a kinesiology or physical education program. Currently I am in the fourth year of an honours kinesiology program at an excellent University in Canada. I must say the experience has been second to none. With courses ranging from muscle physiology and exercise physiology to sports psychology and sports injuries, the plethra of info to be learned is superb. Another program of choice may be nutition, or perhaps more science streamed such as biology or chemistry. One thing is for sure, whichever program you choose make sure you pick your professors brains to bits. These guys (gals) are experts in their respected fields and are more often then not willing to discuss their areas of expertees with you. Just don’t go through the motions of being a ‘run of the mill’ university student with four day weekends consisting of drinking kegs and smoking colts. Step onto the ice and take a few strides. You’ll never get that plus/minus statistic up from sitting on the bench!
i’m a freshman this year in college and am so far undecided on my major. i know i would definately enjoy doing and learning about anything related to the body and working out, the only problem is money. what kind of jobs can you get in this sort of field that pay good. athletic trainers don’t really make a lot do they?
No, pretty much you’re not going to make much money. Obviously, if you’re in the big time you’re going to make more. This is one reason why most of the big names get into selling some sort of product or advice.
