College Gal Studying Abroad Puzzle

Hey People- I’ve got a puzzle ahead of me for the next three months, and I’m looking for some help solving it.

I’m going to Costa Rica, where gym memberships are reportedly hugely expensive, and nutrition is mostly beans and rice. I’ll be with a host family the whole time, who will ensure that I get three (not six) large meals a day, probably composed mostly of carbohydrates. Not accepting those meals would be pretty offensive to them, and I don’t want to do that.

For training equipment, I’ve got a small apartment space, no weights, a weighted jump rope, and rock rings.

I think I can get some badass old school training sessions in, but I’d like some new ideas to make sure my program is as effective as possible.

How would you train?

Have a look at www.beastskills.com - lots of fun stuff there (hardly any of which I can do).

what are your goals?

Meaning, what have you currently been training for?

This is a good site for body weight exercises!
www.trainforstrength.com/exercises.shtml

Well, my goals are going to change depending on what I can accomplish- and recently I’ve been working on strength, after just having gotten off of a nice mass phase.

Strength training is my favorite, though.

While I’m there, especially looking at the websites (both of which are awesome, by the way), I think I’m going to end up working on conditioning, flexibility, and movement patterns.

I didn’t see any programs, though. No “MWF for 4 weeks” kind of stuff.

Call me a ditz. Any suggestions there?

how about trying to google?

you’re likely to find more info that way.

Google Steve Maxwell, read his blog, and every article you can find.

Holy Crap, I just revisited Mike Mahler’s site: http://www.mikemahler.com/articles.html#bodyweight
If anyone is/has had/will soon have a similar issue with training, this guy’s site is pretty awesome.

I once worked in a swamp area for awhile, and only had three kettlebells and a gravel road to train with. Mike Mahler’s articles came in handy then, too. http://www.mikemahler.com/articles.html#kettlebell (Although I mostly ended up doing THIS awesome program that I found on T-Nation…it’s also by Senor Mike Strength Training, Bodybuilding & Online Supplement Store - T NATION)

Why do I keep getting myself into situations where I can’t get at a good gym?
