College Football

The no huddle offense is not meant to be so slow and sluggish, they are not running it the way it was meant. The proper was is for everyone to line up, the QB calls out some number, letter, or color, and then they hike the ball. Linemen don’t get tired in their stance, they could sit there for minutes, they sit in that stance so much that it is second nature. If anything it is easy, in the off-season, linemen can sit in that stance while holding a 45 lb plate.

It didn’t look so great last night, but last season it worked great. We didn’t always run it fast, but we could, and it usually worked pretty well. The best thing that it does is it keeps the same defense on the field. We could switch to any formation and be fine, because we had runningbacks who were natural receivers, a tight end who was basically a big receiver, and fullbacks who could and very often did play tight end.

It didn’t look too great last night, but you also have to consider that Gresham wasn’t playing and that Bradford got hurt at half.
They will get better at it, like everything and everyone else, it just takes time to get that team rhythm. Yes I think the game does change when your Heisman QB goes down, no question about that. I was excited to see OU lose because my Trojans will move up to #3 and Ohio State will go to #5, that is my reason.

No problems with that. I’ve cheered MANY times against USC. The only thing that sometimes ticks me off is when fans, such as the Oklahoma State’s, are more excited about OU losing than OSU winning.

Not sure Ohio State is going to move up past OU, though. They didn’t look too good against Navy. Doesn’t really matter, though, because they will drop when USC slaughters them.

How about that Miami and Florida State game? What a great ending and Florida State really gave that game away.

That game was classic, those are some of the best games, where the lead changes 4-5 times. You gotta give it up to both teams, they fought hard and both looked good. But I like Bobby Bowden and hate to see him lose. He is legendary in college football.

I was really surprised to see how clean the game was. Few penalties and the turnovers that did occur were because of great defensive plays and not due to sloppiness. Rare to see in the first weekend of the season.

I would like to see Florida State and Miami get back to the dominance they had in the 90’s, also some of the Big 10 teams too. There used to be a day where you feared playing Michigan, Penn State, FSU and Miami. This is why I love NCAA football more than the NFL. They play harder and there is less predictability, anyone can win or lose with each week.

GO BIG RED!!!

Jermaine Gresham out for the year. That really sucks for him because he could have been a 1st rounder, but wanted to come back for a title, and he didn’t even get to play one snap.

Grew up a Michigan fan. Now go to Utah State. Michigan will be back. The Big House will be rockinâ?? against Notre Dame. Hopefully the D can shut down Clawson and those receivers. As far as my own schoolâ?¦bowl game maybeâ?¦in the next couple years? I love our new coaching staff; I think theyâ??ll turn things around. We have one of the best running QBâ??s in the land IMO. Canâ??t really throw worth shit though.

Iâ??m also proud of the BYU boys for taking down big bad OU. That game was an example of why college football is the greatest sport in the world.

I’ve been out of town the past week, and got drunk watching the OU-BYU game on Saturday.

Sigh…

The things I love about college football are also the things I hate.

Agreed…I had to sit through that mess of a football game. And to find out that Gresham is out for the year is just bad news on our season. I’m sure Stoops will have an answer, but it’s gotta be tough to lose your best offensive weapon and have your Heisman quarterback go down on the same weekend.

Sucks to have an O in the beginning of your name this weekend.

true story… except oklahoma state won today against georgia.

but its not a big deal really. nonconference play is like wipin your butt before you shit: you can do it, but whats the point?

with that said, had bradford remained uninjured, we would have done fine. and when we get gresham back too, all will be made good.

boomer sooner baby.
True story. All these Texas fans getting so excited about their Conference Championship, but we’re not even playing conference yet…

I think the worst part of that game was the offensive rhythm in the first quarter. Too many drops by receivers (on good passes!), too many miscues by the offensive line (#70 wtf?), and just no production by the running game. Once things started clicking, then offensive line was still heavily penalized which was frustrating as hell. I’m sure Coach will get those things straightened out by conference (and hopefully by the time we see Miami).

If you want to contend for the National Title, you need to do well with all your games. Or if you are trying to land a BCS Bowl you still need to do well. I am just tired of seeing these powerhouse teams scheduling these nobodys so they can run up the score and stats. I am so psyched for the SC-OSU game it’s scary, I am actually mad that the game is on at 5pm PST rather than the typical 12:30 or 3:30.

Maximus that is what upsets me about colleg ball. Prime example is powerhouses having to play nobody’s to get style points to pad there stats when it gets to the end of season. The nay sayers argue that every game matters. Well Texas beats the shit out of a no name team and OU loses to BYU and at the end of the season Texas will look better. What gets better ratings games like SC-OSU or when powerhouses play nobody’s. Why is it that Division I football is the only sport that doesn’t have a playoff. Every other division in college and every other sport does? It is just sad to see good teams go unrewarded like UTAH last year.

OU looks bad because they lost their quarterback and gresham, regardless of who they lost to. Texas will look good if they beat everyone in their conference, not because they ran up 50 points on some no name team. A final playoff would help a LITTLE but it really would do more damage to the players then it’s worth. These guys already play a brutal seasoon. 1st round draft picks got hurt in the last few bcs games, to have two or 3 more games for these players would do unneccessary harm to their futures, and for what? I mean seriously UTAH wasnt’ going to beat florida last year. By the end of the season it’s pretty clear who dominant team is when fans take their blinders off they know the truth.

I don’t know why, probably because it will devalue the smaller bowl games, at least that has been the argument. I am not a fan of the BCS system, and hope something changes.

I am just glad that my team actually came back after getting waxed in the first half, we screwed ourselves in the first half but for the first time in a long long time we actually fought back (we’d have lost 48-0 under Tommy Bowden instead 30-27 tonight). Still ain’t happy about that holding call late in the game but it doesn’t make up for the mistakes in the first quarter, but I am happy we showed some toughness tonight, our qb Kyle Parker made his 2nd start this year as a redshirt freshman and threw 3 tds and all those yards, first time we’ve had a real qb in a few years. Even in the loss, GO TIGERS!

OU got the nod over Texas because they had wins over TCU and Cinci in their OOC while UT was playing UTEP, Florida Atlantic, and the Louisiana Cosmetology Academy. There is still some justice there. Florida probably waxes Texas. 0

Everyone is quick to laugh off Utahs chances against Florida, but they had a common opponent in Bama. At the end of 3 quarters Bama led Florida by a fg, whereas Utah jumped on Bama 21-0 just a few minutes into the game and didn’t look back. This is where a plus one would be a good idea. Remember also that late last year Utah doubled up on BYU, the team that just beat OU.

I think that fake fg pooch punt is a terribly designed play. Instead of your normal punt coverage squad you’ve got 350 lineman trying to cover a kick, it obviously didn’t work. That and the other GT gadget play were the difference. You guys battled back, and the 53 yard kick was awesome. I’m looking forward to TCU’s trip up there, whish I could make it.
